If I were to narrow down a list of my absolute favourite books — the ones that have rocked me to my core and changed the course of my life — Conversations With God by Neale Donald Walsch would be a sure-fire inclusion. When I read it the first time (and there’s been many re-reads since) almost the entire book ended up dog eared and highlighted. I found myself nodding along in agreement, even saying ‘YES!’ out loud, because everything I was reading was resonating so intensely with what I already knew to be true deep in my heart.
This book is my bible (big call, I know), but I cannot deny the potency as I return back to it time and time again. The reminders are potent, powerful, simple, and are articulated in such an easy-to-digest way that you can’t help but be catapulted back to love whenever you find yourself off course.
The author of this book — and the ‘voice of God’ — is Neale Donald Walsch, a modern day spiritual messenger whose words continue to touch the world in profound ways. With an early interest in religion and a deeply felt connection to spirituality, Neale spent the majority of his life thriving professionally, yet searching for spiritual meaning before experiencing his now famous conversation with ‘God’. The Conversations with God series of books that emerged from those encounters has been translated into 37 languages, touching millions and inspiring important changes in their day-to-day lives.
Neale has since written 29 books on spirituality and its practical application in everyday life. Seven of those have reached the New York Times Bestseller List, with the first Conversations with God book occupying that list for over two-and-a-half years. (Crazy, cool!)
I was insanely excited to interview this amazing man, and our conversation did not disappoint. (I had goosebumps — or as I like to call them, ‘god bumps’ — the entire time!) Get ready for a spiritual awakening!
In this episode we chat about:
- His journey and how he got to where he is today (05:00)
- How the Conversations with God phenomenon came to be (06:55)
- The passage from his book that brought my husband and I together (I wasn’t kidding when I said it was a ‘life changing’ book!) (14:30)
- Neale’s foolproof strategies for dealing with challenges when they pop up (18:02)
- The powerful spiritual tool that will change your life forever (I loved this so much!) (22:36)
- How Neale deals with tough moments (and why what we resist persists) (26:18)
- Neale’s favourite phrase that helps him move through adversity (28:52)
- Are you really creating your own reality? (31:02)
- Why being self-centered is the key to living your best life (37:12)
- The one sentence to say to yourself before you walk into any room (40:00)
- Why expectations ruin relationship (and how to ditch them instantly) (43:09)
- Why forgetfulness is a great gift (47:28)
- How and why sex is sacred (and how to use this extraordinary expression of love to enhance your relationship) (50:53)
- The key to life (01:10:10)
- Plus so much more!

I am a subscriber of the podcast and I was so surprised to see this podcast come up. I literally finished reading Book 1 of Conversations with God TWO days ago and just found it completely serendipitous that your podcast would be interviewing the author. This was so amazing! A true example of universal synchronicity. When the universe wants you to see or hear something it will make sure you do. I loved this podcast and I loved the book. Everyone NEEDS to read the series.
Thanks for your kind words angel. And yes I agree the universe will work in magical ways to get you to look. xx
I was so moved by this man and your interview. Thank you so much for this beautiful gift that I needed so much today.
I’m only half way through and it’s already giving me so so so much! You can never hear enough that you aren’t expected to be perfect, that the experience is ongoing and to be reminded into gratitude.
Thank you God!
Thank You Neale
Thank you Melissa
Ohhhh Mel, no words at the moment. The best podcast yet. I had conversations with god on my bookshelf for well over a year and only just read it a month ago. As soon as I finished I started it again. This just sings to my soul and makes perfect sense to me. Can’t believe you got to chat with Neale. Thank you so much – I have never felt so awake in my 42 years in this life – I have a heart full of joy, love and purpose because I REMEMBER WHO I AM. Thank you so much. Xxxx
Mel, thank you for interviewing this incredible man, I was so excited when I saw your podcast title as his book is on my bookshelf and I remember when I first started reading the very first few pages, I was blown away.
I am so grateful for you and Neale and your wonderful podcast and work that you’re both doing in the world, it inspires me so much.
I will definitely be sharing this with people.

Thank you so much for this episode and all of your podcasts. All of them are resonating with me and are what I need at this present time! I am so blessed to have found you and discover all these wonderful people and authors. I have purchased many books since hearing your podcasts just today I got conversations with god book 1 so can’t wait to read. Thank you x
Pleasure angel. Enjoy all these amazing books, they are life changing. xx
Wow wow wow Melissa! This podcast has had such a profound effect on me. Thank you so much for introducing Neal to me and his message… or rather his approach to living.
I have not been able to relate to religion or God in such a long time but Neal’s approach has demystified it all. I still have a long, long way to go, but I am so glad to have taken the time to listen.
Keep doing the AMAZING work you are doing.
xxx Sasha
Thanks for your kind words Sasha. Remember, it’s a journey and we have to have fun along the way, otherwise, what’s the point!? That’s what I think anyway. It’s all about having fun on our path to engagement. xx
Wow! Yes yes yes! I felt the same way Melissa. I resonated with every word
Like all your interviews, simply great materials to share!
Although his suggestions like what to do when you enter a room is great, I’m also interested in what sort of internal changes happened so that the thoughts and actions (e.g what would love do?) become second nature (a reflection) rather than the other way around. Showing kindness doesn’t require a conscious effort coming from a kind soul. I’m not sure I’m making sense though.
Hey Rolando, I am not sure of the question?
Hello beautiful. I have been meaning to contact you and share my absolute bursting gratitude to you for this podcast series. Honestly, the timing, the timing of each one. This has super powers! Thank you for being the channel to allow this magic to take place for so many of us. Celebrating your work! Especially this one!!! <3 Amy
Thank you so much sista. I am beyond grateful for your kind words and thanks for listening. xx
Hi Mel,
Thank you so much for this podcast! I listened to it when I was going through a difficult time physically back in December and immediately went to the bookstore and purchased the book after the episode. It’s such a useful resource to have and such an inspiring man with so much knowledgable thought.
Passages towards “Self” and relationships are on my vision board to remind me and manifest the direction I wish to take in life and love!
Dear Melissa,
I’m grateful for your podcast! I just started listening (3 episodes) and I already have changed so many things in my life and I have a complete to do list!
It’s exactly what I need in my life.
Thank you for taking the time to make this for us.
Would love to come over and give you a big hug!
Lots of love from Belgium
Xoxo, b
You are such a sweetie pie. I would LOVE to give you a massive hug also. Please let me know if you ever come to Aussie land. xx
I so enjoyed this article about Neale (I have followed his work for years also and follow his daily tweets on Twitter). It is not everyday that I come upon anyone talking about “God Bumps” as I also call that inner physical sensation we get while discussing anything having to do with Omniscience, health, healing, and so on. It’s all connected. We Are All Connected. Many blessings to you my dear, in ALL ways. OM
We sure are all connected and all One Sheila. xx
This was amazing, it has helped me so much in getting a better perspective on things and has given me tools to see fear and challenges as opportunities to grow and to be grateful for it! And the walking into a room and thinking about how you can heal it! Was amazing! Also Melissa thanks for everything you do and for always being a shining light! I love your books they have helped me so much! I see you being vulnerable and courageous and it makes me want to do that in my own life so thank you!
Thank you so much for your kind words angel. Being vulnerable can feel scary at times but it’s so worth it. xx
Hi Melissa this podcast( #32) is no longer availed under ITunes , how can this still be found ?
Hey John, That’s odd as I can see it on my end. Try quitting your podcast app and re-opening it and let me know how you go. xx
on my iPhone 8 under podcast AP and under iTunes on my mac they list only back to episode 54 .
That is so weird. Have you tried quitting the app then re-opening it?
