Until very recently, every human on the planet was eating the same food that THOUSANDS of generations of their ancestors had eaten. Then, 50 or so years ago, we abandoned those traditional ways of eating in favour of highly processed foods… many of which have been damaging our bodies ever since.
Today’s podcast guest — Dr Cate Shanahan — has studied ancestral diets from around the world and identified the foods and eating patterns common to all of them. Melding this ancient wisdom with the best of modern nutritional science, she’s unlocked a way of eating that can return our bodies to optimum health and unlock our full genetic potential.
A board certified Family Physician, Dr. Cate trained in biochemistry and genetics. While practicing medicine in Hawaii, she began to study the culinary habits and eating patterns of her healthiest patients. Combining her observations with cutting edge medical research, she penned the bestselling book, Deep Nutrition: Why Your Genes Need Traditional Food (named one of the best health and wellness books of 2017 by Sports Illustrated) and went on to create the nutritional program for the LA Lakers.
With high profile fans like Mark Sisson, Kobe Bryant and Dwight Howard, Dr Cate’s food philosophy has attracted thousands of followers around the globe. Her mission is to help people reverse metabolic disease, reshape their body, and achieve true glowing health by eating simple, delicious, real whole foods and getting rid of some silent killers.

Great interview, Melissa. I really enjoyed it. xo
I loved hearing this podcast!
I am an extra virgin olive oil producer in Argentina.
I feel its so hard for people to understand when i try to explain why they should start using extra virgin olive oil, insted of the other seed oils. The manufacter process is SO different!!! But the consumer has so much to learn… They complain about the flavour, many times mistaken with bad quality and rancid olive oil.
Thank you so much MELISSA, Iam so pleased to have been introduced to Dr Cate, and i will be reading her book. BEst regards. Laura.
Pleasure Laura. And thanks for all the amazing work you are doing. Keep going sista. xx
You Can Farm: The Entrepreneur’s Guide to Start & Succeed in a Farming Enterprise
by Joel Salatin
This book is perfect for learning that anyone can farm! I loved this episode, and I’ll be sharing it with everyone I know. I have been telling my kids for years they should be farmers. John Adams said it’s the most noble profession when his son said he wanted to become a farmer, but told him to be a lawyer instead because that’s what our country needed at the time.
We farmed for a short while and loved the process of clearing the land of briars and poison ivy, milking the cow, raising pigs and chickens, and growing vegetables. We hope to get back to it as soon as possible.
Sounds like heaven honey. I can’t wait to grow all my own food one day. xx
THANK YOU FOR THESE EPISODE!!!
You’re so welcome Laura. What did you take away from it? I would love to hear. xx
