‘A good mother puts her own needs last.’
‘You should enjoy every moment of motherhood.’
‘It’s important to get your pre-baby body back, fast.’
… This is just a handful of the limiting beliefs people can hold about motherhood.
Sometimes we inherit these beliefs from our own mothers, sometimes they’re fed to us from society, and sometimes they get embedded in our brains without us even knowing. Today’s podcast guest, Bethany Webster, says this way of thinking stems from the ‘Mother Wound’ — the inherited pain of being a woman in a patriarchal culture. And in today’s episode, she’s guiding us through the process of healing this wound, ditching our dysfunctional coping mechanisms, and expanding our idea of what it means to be a mama.
Known as a ‘midwife of the heart’, Bethany Webster is a writer, transformational coach and international speaker. Her work has filled a crucial gap in our understanding of women’s lives by blending cutting-edge research on intergenerational trauma, feminist theory, and psychology to comprehensively define the Mother Wound.
Bethany’s insights in this conversation blew me away. I was nodding along like crazy, as she described so perfectly what it’s like to be a woman in this world and how many damaging beliefs we can absorb without even realising. Whether you are a mama, want to be a mama, have a mama, or just want to understand yourself and the women in your life better, you’ll find veins of gold throughout this podcast, and I can’t wait for you to listen.
So if you want to heal your ancestral wounds, actualize your full potential, and redefine your own relationship with motherhood, this conversation is for you.

Thank was such a healing podcast, THANK YOU! Being emotionally abused by my mother (until now, although I live in a different country), I can relate so much to everything Beth was sharing. I will continue my healing journey and I’m very grateful for this support. Thank you Melissa, I love your podcasts! x
You are so welcome darling Natalia. Well done on doing the work. You’re amazing! xx
This subject hits me deep in the heart. I’m dealing with these exact difficulties and inner challenges. I have four young children and have felt very broken open by my motherhood experience. I am grateful for some new tools and insights into how to move forward to healing from Bethany.
Side note: I tried the links to Bethany’s resources but it seems as if her website is down. I’ll check back another time on that but I hope she knows there is an issue with her site so we can get her valuable information asap once fixed.
Thank you for a fantastic podcast on a forward thinking topic Melissa.
Love, Natalie
