Life has a way of surprising us when we least expect it.
And let me tell you, the past month has been a whirlwind of unexpected surprises for me.
As you probably know, I’m pregnant with our second babe.
But then… life happened.
I fell down some stairs and broke my ankle. (Um, not fun!)
Then on top of that, we found out that we need to move out of our rental home a month before our baby arrives… and our dream house won’t be finished for a few weeks after that…
Oh, and did I mention we’re having a home birth?!
Whew.
Honestly, just typing that out makes me want to take a deep breath. It’s a lot.
And while it’s tempting to feel completely overwhelmed, I’ve been learning some powerful lessons through this experience — lessons that I think are universal for anyone navigating big life transitions, whether it’s personal, business or whatever.
So here are three things I’ve been reflecting on (and learning to surrender to) during this wild, big, beautiful season…
1. Surrender doesn’t mean giving up — it means trusting the process.
If you’re someone who’s used to taking action, the idea of surrender can feel uncomfortable at times — like you’re just throwing your hands up in defeat.
But surrender doesn’t mean you’re giving up, it means you’re making room for life to flow in a way that it needs to, not just the way you want it to.
With a baby on the way, a broken ankle, and trying to find somewhere to live, I could easily spiral into stress.
And let me tell you: there’ve been moments when I’ve done exactly that.
But I’ve found that trying to control everything is exhausting and, quite frankly, impossible.
Instead, I’m learning to release my grip on how I think things ‘should’ go and trust that they’re happening exactly as they need to. There is always a plan.
Does it mean I stop taking action? No.
But it does mean I’ve stopped forcing things.
When I lean into surrender, solutions often come that I never could have imagined. It’s been really empowering to shift from a mindset of “I must fix this” to “What can I learn from this?” and “How can I lean more into trust right now?”
2. Patience is a superpower.
When things feel like they’re piling up and the pressure is on, it’s easy to want everything to be resolved right now.
But one thing that pregnancy has taught me is that patience is key.
This baby will arrive when it’s ready, our dream house will be finished when the time is right, and my ankle will heal at its own pace.
None of these things can be rushed.
And really, why should they be?
Learning to be patient, to let things unfold naturally, is not only freeing, but it also brings a profound sense of calm to the uncertainty. It also makes everything feel just a little bit easier.
It’s the same in business. We’re all conditioned to want quick wins, but the truth is that some things take time — and that’s okay. Rome wasn’t built in a day, it was built brick by brick — and so are our dreams.
So instead of rushing, keep laying your bricks with care, knowing that the work you’re doing now WILL pay off in the long run.
3. Be ruthless about what truly matters — and release what doesn’t.
When life throws everything at us at once, it becomes easier to see what really matters — and how many unnecessary things we’ve been giving our energy to.
So I’ve gotten brutally honest with myself: What’s essential? What’s just noise? What can I let go of? What really matters?
I’ve found peace and clarity in stripping things down to the basics. My health, my loved ones, the new life growing inside me – that’s my North Star right now.
And I love being able to prioritize my time and energy accordingly.
The Bottom Line
To anyone out there navigating life’s unexpected twists and turns, I want you to know – you’re not alone.
Whether you’re going through a major transition or dealing with everyday challenges, take a deep breath and surrender a little. You might be surprised at the peace (and magic) that shows up when you stop trying to control it all.
As I keep hobbling along, waiting for this ankle to heal, trusting that our living situation will work out, and preparing for our baby, I’m holding onto these lessons tightly – and I hope they bring a little light to you too.
So keep surrendering, keep trusting, don’t lose hope and keep moving forward… even if it’s with a limp.
You’ve got this, Beautiful!
