So many high-performing women look fine from the outside. The business is moving. The kids are fed. Life is handled. But inside, it can feel like your brain isn’t working the way it used to. You second-guess decisions you normally make with ease. Simple things feel heavy. You keep reaching for more information, more answers, more someone-else’s-opinion, and somehow you feel less clear, not more. If you’ve been doing a lot and still feeling scattered, this episode is for you.
In this solo, I’ll show you why this is often not a strategy problem. It’s a nervous system problem. We’ll talk about the subtle signs you’ve lost your internal signal, why clarity is a nervous system outcome, and what it looks like to come back to clean inner authority without forcing it. I’ll also walk you through simple practices you can use immediately, including the One Decision, One Action reset and a three-sentence tool for those moments when everything feels loud and you can’t access yourself.
In this episode we chat about:
- Why clarity is a nervous system outcome (4:09)
- What “clean inner authority” actually means (4:55)
- The 3 signs you’re outsourcing your intuition (5:29)
- The shift from calibration over consumption (6:47)
- The “One Decision, One Action” practice to rebuild momentum (7:33)

Hello and welcome back to the show. Today we’re gonna be diving deep into why so many high performing women feel overwhelmed and unsure of themselves because I see this a lot and we’re also gonna talk about. Why the real issue [00:01:00] often isn’t that you need more information or more strategies, it’s that your nervous system is running the show.
So if you’ve been saving posts, listening to podcasts, buying courses, asking everyone what they think, and you still feel stuck or scattered, or you can’t trust your own decisions, this episode is for you. And one of the reasons why I wanted to record this episode is because so many of my private clients are experiencing this right now.
My friends are experiencing this, my peers are experiencing this. So I wanted to speak to it and give you the tools and strategies to move through this. So what this often looks like is you are carrying a lot, motherhood, business relationships, the mental load, the logistics, the emotional leadership in your home.
All the things that we carry, it’s a lot. And because you are carrying so much, no matter what, your [00:02:00] system is under pressure. So your brain does what it’s designed to do under pressure, and it looks for certainty. So it goes, if I can just find the right strategy, the right plan, the right framework, then I’ll feel better.
But the problem is. Is when you are dysregulated, you don’t use information to create clarity. You use information to avoid feeling. It’s not conscious, it’s protective, and it creates this loop. So you consume, you get a temporary sense of control, you still don’t act. You feel worse, and then you consume more, and then you start telling yourself a story.
I just guess I don’t trust myself or I’m not decisive, or I’m not consistent. I don’t know how to show up consistently when really you are completely overloaded and you are trying to think your way back to safety. And this is actually a big part of what I help [00:03:00] women with, especially women who are.
Mothers building businesses. It’s not just about more information or strategy, but helping you get back into what I call with my clients, clean inner authority, helping you make decisions from regulation, not urgency. That is what I mean when I say clean inner authority, because we’re outsourcing so fricking much at the moment.
And I love AI, and I think outsource as much as you possibly can. But do not outsource your intuition. Do not outsource your inner authority. I did an IG story on this last week where I was like, stop outsourcing your intuition, and it went crazy. The amount of people that messaged me after that, I need to turn it into a reel.
I will one day, but take this now. And implement it into your life. Do not outsource your intuition or your inner authority. And if this is something that you want support with, you can [00:04:00] book a one-on-one strategy session with me. All you have to do is go to melissa ambrosini.com/strategy, and I’ll link to it in the show notes as well.
But let’s break this down to what is really happening. So when your nervous system is under sustained load. Your capacity narrows, and I know you probably know what I’m talking about. That is when everything feels urgent. That is when you second guess your instincts, you become overly influenced by other people’s opinions.
This is when you outsource your intuition. You can’t hear your own yes or a no clearly, so you literally start outsourcing your inner authority to either AI or to other people. And the sneaky thing is it can look like you are being responsible. It can look like I’m just doing my research, or I’m just gathering data or I’m being thoughtful.
But here’s the truth that I want you to hold. Clarity [00:05:00] is a nervous system outcome. If you are flooded, you don’t need more content, you need calibration. And for high performing women, calibration often looks like structure, not hustle, not discipline as punishment structure that helps your system feel safe again.
’cause that is ultimately what is happening here. Your system doesn’t feel safe. So let me give you three specific signs that this is happening. So number one is you keep asking people to confirm your decision. I have been there in the past. And this is where you have already decided and you can feel it, but you keep asking other people because what you are really asking is for nervous system relief.
So you keep looking and asking other people what they think. The other sign is you save everything but implement almost nothing. You’ve got [00:06:00] a ton of saved folders in your phone, and it’s basically just a storage unit, and every saved post gives a tiny bit of, maybe this will help, or maybe this will fix, or maybe this will support me, but it also reinforces the message that I don’t have what I need inside of me.
I am outsourcing my inner authority. And the third sign is you delay the moment of choice. So you will tweak or refine or rework or wait for the perfect time or moment. But underneath that is often if I choose and it costs me something, I won’t be able to handle that feeling. That is what you’re essentially saying.
So it’s not a strategy problem, right? Here is a capacity problem. So here’s the shift. We need to go from calibration over consumption. So instead of asking what’s the right answer, you ask, [00:07:00] what state am I in while I’m trying to choose or trying to make the decision? Because when you choose or make a decision, or trying to make a decision from urgency, you actually create more urgency.
It’s not clean. So when you choose from pressure, you create more pressure. When you choose from regulation, even if the choice is not quote unquote perfect, you build self-trust. That’s how self-trust is rebuilt, not by thinking, but by evidence. So here’s a simple practice that you can use this week. It’s intentionally very small so that you can actually implement it into your life.
So it’s called one decision, one Action. So first one, input. Choose one trusted source, not seven, and not ai. Okay, I love ai, but like, let’s go to a real human in your life. A trusted human. If you [00:08:00] have one or two people in your life that are nervous system regulating humans that are expanders, that are calibrators, then you are winning.
So go to that person. So one input, one decision is next. So decide the next step, not the whole plan, just one step next. And then one action. Take a single concrete action within the next 24 hours. Why this works is because it stops the endless seeking. It creates momentum without overwhelm. It gives your nervous system proof.
And the proof is I can move, I can choose, I can lead. Look at me, go. And if you notice yourself wanting to grab more information, just pause and ask yourself. Am I seeking clarity or seeking relief here? That one question alone is very regulating, and this is the kind of [00:09:00] work that I do with my one-on-one private clients.
We look at what you are carrying, all the things that you are carrying in your life, and usually for high performing women like you we’re carrying a lot. We look at where your system is overloaded, where it’s flooded, and we create clean structure that reduces pressure so that you can make clean decisions again and trust yourself again.
So many women do not trust themself anymore. We need to come back to self-trust, and we are not striving for perfect or a rigid routine. We’re striving for a calibrated way of operating that matches the reality of. Your life, whether that is business and motherhood or whatever it is for you. So if you want that support book in a one-on-one strategy session with me, melissa ambrosini.com/strategy, and I’ll link to it in the show notes for you.
So, if you are a mother [00:10:00] building a business, and many of the women I work with are in that place and many of my friends are in that place, many of my peers are in that place. The thing is, is we are not just managing tasks, we are managing constant transitions going from client call or any sort of call to making dinner.
We’re going from Zoom calls to breastfeeding our babies. So we are managing constant transitions wearing one hat to the next. Then we are also managing constant emotional input. So much input. We are exposed today to more input, more information in one day than we were exposed to in an entire lifetime, only 40 years ago.
That’s crazy. So there’s a lot of constant emotional input and input in general. And then we’re also managing constant responsibility and our nervous systems don’t clock off. I don’t [00:11:00] know about you, but even when we’re sleeping, I’m still on. I’m still listening out. For my children, our nervous system doesn’t get to clock off.
So of course we are tempted to overconsume, and overconsumption is a form of self-soothing, but it’s the self-soothing strategy that quietly erodes self-trust because every time you go outside yourself, first you reinforce, I can’t lead me. That is literally what you are saying to the universe. I can’t lead me and I wanna offer you a different truth.
You can lead you, but you need a calmer internal environment to hear yourself. Let me say that again. You need a calmer internal environment to actually hear your self, to hear your intuition. And that’s why I say. Regulation before leadership. I say this to my clients all the time, regulation before [00:12:00] leadership.
What that means is we have to regulate ourselves before we lead our business. We have to regulate ourselves before we lead in our home because as a mother, you are a leader. We have to regulate ourselves before leadership. So before we wrap up, I wanna give you a simple three sentence reset that you can use in real time.
For when you are about to ask for another opinion or open another tab. Number one, write these in the notes section of your phone. I’m feeling pressure. Number two, pressure leaks when I don’t process it. Number three, I’m going to choose one next step from regulation. That is it. Small, grounded and repeatable, and repetition is what builds inner authority.
So if this episode hit something within you, something tender, if you can see yourself in that loop of consuming second [00:13:00] guessing and outsourcing your intuition, your inner authority, I want you to know that there is nothing wrong with you, that you are not broken, that you are not weak, that you are not failing.
No matter what anyone says. You are not those things. You are just carrying a lot. So much and your nervous system is asking for a different way. It’s had enough. It’s like, I can’t keep going like this. I need a different way. And this is exactly the work that I help women do inside my one-on-one strategy sessions, especially for those mothers building businesses who want sustainable success without self abandonment.
So make sure you check that out if that’s something you’re interested in. And if you loved today’s episode, share it with a woman who is holding a lot and needs the reminder that clarity isn’t found in more consumption or more anything it is found in calibration. I hope you got a lot out of this, and if you did, please follow the show.
