In 2010 when I hit rock bottom and ended up in a hospital with my health taken away from me, I made a pledge to get healthy and happy again. One of the first (and most transformative) things I did on my journey back to health was quit alcohol cold turkey. Do I feel like I’m missing out? Nope. Do I ever crave a drink? Not at all!
So today I have brought back on my health guru Dr Stephen Cabral to chat about my journey, all things alcohol, and the truth of how alcohol affects you physically, emotionally and spiritually.
Through years of groundbreaking research, Dr Stephen Cabral has developed a powerful treatment combo of ancient ayurvedic healing practices and state-of-the-art naturopathic medicine to fully rebalance the body and re-energize it with life. He’s helped over 250,000 struggling people recover from auto-immune, thyroid, fatigue, weight gain, and dozens of other hard to treat health conditions. His life mission? To help people understand that you CAN and WILL get well again.
Dr Stephen Cabral’s vast knowledge and truly transformative treatments have literally saved my husband’s life and changed mine forever. So if you want to learn how I quit drinking, why I’ve stayed radiantly healthy and sober for the last 9 years, and get the scientific insights behind it all, then plug in your earbuds… this one is for you!

I loved this episode! I learned so much. My husband and I have been saying we need to quit alcohol and this really hit home for me. We haven’t drank since!
So proud of your Catherine. I bet you feel amazing. Keep up the awesome work. xx
Thank you so much for this episode!
I would love you to also speak about softdrinks especially energy drinks in one of your podcasts, While I stopped smoking and handle my alcohol intake quite well nowadays, I just don’t manage to get rid oft this. I tried green and other teas, bio energy drinks, fresh pressed juices etc. but always came back to the “hard stuff”. Why is that and what can I do about it? I guess this drinks are really bad for me but I don’t know much about them and would love more insight. Why are they so addictive even if they are sugar free, even if I’m not tired etc.
Love Mathilda
Hey Mathilda, great question. Those drinks are full of unhealthy substances that aren’t going to serve you, just read the ingredients list! They are highly addictive as you know. I am not an expert but you can listen to Dr Cabral’s episodes here where he talks all about these types of drinks. Have a listen and let me know if you have any other questions. xx
There and back again. An alcoholics journey. https://mymeaningmap.wordpress.com/2019/06/05/john-barleycorn-2/
Dear Melissa,
while I am very grateful to the all data you shared here, I must say I do have an issue with “it could be as simple as not drinking “.
Drinking is a serious addiction. If you could drink only on weekends as you said – you definitely did not have that addiction at all.
Stoping drinking when you are an addict or have a serious PTSD or any other trauma and alcohol calms you down or otherwise you anxiety is so serious that you blood pressure or heart rates skyrockets to the point of fainting – now THAT is an issue worth discussing and THAT is why people feel the urge to binge.
Social pressure and weekend drinkers are pretty privileged in that sense so yes for them is :”oh just freaking stop being a baby and stop it” … and yes then all that what you said is of great value for them
however , this does send a very wrong msg for those who are not privileged in that sense and have serious struggles. that makes them feel even worse which would make them reach for a drink etc.
so this trend among privileged occasional peer pressure drinker to “just go cold turkey ” is not helpful for people with addiction
there should be clarity about that!
I wish you addressed that part too,
but I am guessing your audience is more peer pressure drinkers who dont realy have to drink
Hey Sarah, thank you for bringing this up and you’re right it is very different. I will be sure to make that distinction next time I speak about it. xx
