This super easy, delicious, wholefood, healthy brownie will blow your mind. I highly recommend making two batches as these will go very quickly. Enjoy and don’t forget to tag me in your posts on Instagram as I love seeing you create my favorite brownie.
What you need:
1 cup gluten-free organic oat flour
3/4 cup white cannellini beans
3/4 cup maple syrup
1/4 cup + 2 tablespoons unsweetened applesauce
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla powder
3/4 cup cacao powder
Essential oils peppermint, spearmint, wild orange or tangerine (optional)
*Preferably all organic
What you do:
- Add everything to a food processor and blend until smooth.
- Add to brownie dish and bake in the oven at 175 degrees Celsius for approximately 25 minutes. You will have to test it at 25 minutes as it may need longer as every oven is different.
Thanks so much for this amazing recipe
You’re so welcome Jodie. Enjoy! xx
Thanks for the Instagram post leading me to this recipe, question- where do you get gf oats from? I’ve never seen them anywhere? Thanks lovely x
Hey Amanda, Flannerys has them or you could check out these ones. Enjoy the brownie honey. xx
Can’t wait to give this one a try! I remember hearing you talk about it on the podcast a little while ago 🙂 Sounds delicious!
Enjoy honey and tag me in it on Instagram once you have made it. xx
Sooooooo good! I used coconut flour instead (as we already had some). So delicious!
Oh yummy. I wish you lived next door and could bring me a piece. xx
Oooh Tamara, I was just wondering if I could substitute coconut flour as I have that already. Thank you for your comment! Can I please ask if you used same quantity- 1 cup? Or less? And did you have to add any extra liquid?
This looks so yum and super easy I am definitely giving this one a go!
May I just ask – with the essential oils do you just put a drop of each??
Thank you xx
I personally do 5 but you may want to start with 1 – 3 and see how you like it. xx
Hey there, so I doubled the recipe and I must say this is the dryest brownie recipe I’ve ever made, I even added an egg and still so dry… What could have gone wrong??
Hi Lisa, you could try adding a bit of filtered water until it’s at your desired consistency. xx
Hi, I made these over the weekend and doubled the recipe but it’s so dry… do you use the liquid from the beans?
Hey Lisa, no I didn’t but you could just add a bit of filtered water until it’s the desired consistency for you. Enjoy! xx
Wow I can’t wait to make this! Do you have a recipe for tour sweet potato frosting??? #drool xx
Hi honey, it’s sweet potato, cacao powder, and maple syrup, blend it all up and pop it on. It’s super delish! Enjoy and don’t forget to tag me in your pic’s when you make it. I love seeing them. xx
Hi Melissa! Can’t wait to try this recipe! What can switch with the white cannelinni beans? Not sure if we have it here other than dried or frozen.
Hey Michal, you are going to love it. It’s so yummy. I haven’t tried swapping out the white cannellini but give it a go and let me know how you go. I hope it’s yummy. xx
Michael I often make a black bean brownie similar to this, based on that experience alone I would suggest substituting for black beans.
Otherwise if you have dry cannelinni beans just soak and boil til cooked then you could use that! X
This brownie is divine! Definitely a crowd pleaser for vegans and non vegans alike. And, it’s also super easy to make. Thanks for the recipe, Melissa!
You’re so welcome, honey. Enjoy and please bring me a piece next time 😉 xx
Hey Melissa
Have you ever tried making this recipe with another flour? I have tiger nut or almond flour. Silly question but is oat flour just ground up oats?
Also having trouble finding unsweetened apple sauce. ♀️
Looking forward to making this for Easter
Thankyou xo
Hi honey, I haven’t tried it with any other flour but give it a go if you want. Yes, oat flour is just ground oats and you can always make your own apple sauce if you wish. Tag me in your photo’s when you make it. I am excited for you. xx
How many drops of essential oil would you recommend?
Thank you for sharing the recipe
Hey Susanne, you could start with 5, have a taste then add more if you desire. Let me know what you think and tag me on Insta once it’s done. xx
Made this twice already. Love it. I’m out of Maple Syrup and wondering if I can add honey instead? If so, will be same as the syrup – 3/4 cups?
YAY, I’m so glad you love it darling. I haven’t tried it with honey so I’m not sure. Let me know how you go. xx
Oh my lordy these are sensational – where have you been all my life!?! With the added wild orange or peppermint (dōTERRA fan as well) they taste super delicious. And the added bonus, my 8 year old loves them too!! Thank you so very much for sharing Melissa.

You’re so welcome Jodie. I LOVE them too. I wish you lived next door and we could share them right now. xx
Hi Melissa,
I’ve seen on your Insta & via blog posts that you and Nick have gone fully plants based. I listened to his podcast about his health and reasoning with Ayurveda, etc. I’d like to know more about your decision – particularly as someone who purchased your recipe e-book that was filled with keto recipes, and not many fruits, no grains, lots of fats and animal dishes. I know that everyone needs to look out for themselves, listen to their body etc. but given the investment I made in listening to your advice and research, and now that’s changed I’d be keen to hear more about your 180.
My computer is playing up! I think my question was deleted (apologies if there is a double up!)

Super keen to hear your thoughts!
Has anyone used chickpeas? Limited on time and it’s the only bean I have on hand, thanks!
I haven’t but give it a try and let me know how you go. xx
Hi Melissa,
If you are coeliac which flour should you use instead?
I have been told by my specialist to avoid oat flour even if it is gluten free.
Any thoughts?
Hey Kat, I am not sure. You could try almond meal but I haven’t tried that so not sure if it will work. You can get gluten free oats but you just need to make sure they say gluten free. xx
