It might not be your packed schedule that’s causing that “weighed down” feeling — it could be because your personal energy field is getting cluttered. 

So — want to learn how to declutter your energy?

Let’s do it…

Think of your energy field like a closet. Over time, it can become cluttered with all sorts of unwanted items – negative thoughts, past experiences, and even the lingering energy of others. 

This clutter doesn’t just take up space and bandwidth inside you; it also weighs you down, much like a disorganized and overflowing wardrobe.

But here’s the cool part: you CAN “spring clean” your energy field, so that you’ve got a beautiful, fresh, clean energetic slate to work with.

Once you clear this inner clutter, life begins to flow with so much more ease: relationships thrive, you’re more aligned with your goals, your well-being improves, and your manifesting powers will *seriously* kick into overdrive.

So without further ado, let’s dive into the 7 steps to energetic decluttering…

1. Identify What’s Weighing You Down.

The first thing you need to do in cleaning up your energy is to figure out what should be cleared away. This might be negative ways of thinking, old beliefs that don’t serve you, or even leftover vibes from people who are no longer part of your life.

So take a moment to think about what’s on your mind a lot — 

  • Do you keep coming back to certain thoughts or beliefs that bring you down or drain your energy?
  • What worries, frustrations or resentments take up most of your time?
  • Are these thoughts helpful, or are they just like old clutter that needs to be thrown away?

2. Journal It Out.

One of the most powerful and effective ways to release energetic clutter and find clarity is through journaling. 

When I identify something that I want to release, I’ll either free-write about it in my journal to see what comes up, or I’ll ask myself a series of specific questions and write out my answers:

  1. How does this thought or emotion affect my daily life and relationships?
  2. If I let go of this thought/emotion, what would I make room for in my life?
  3. What would I say to a friend who was experiencing this same thought or feeling?
  4. What will my life look like in a year if I continue to hold onto this clutter?
  5. What are three steps I can take right now to release what’s weighing me down?

You’ll be amazed at the wisdom that can flow through you, if you’re only willing to allow it.

3. Use Visualization.

Picture your energy field like a room that’s slowly filling with light. Visualize sweeping out the shadows (negative energy) and making the room lighter and brighter. 

Another technique is to visualize “cutting the cords” tethering you to your energetic baggage.  Picture yourself slicing these imaginary cords with a bright, light-filled sword or a pair of scissors, releasing the hold that these outdated energies have on you.

 

Hot tip: Want to amp up the effectiveness? After you’ve cleared out the junk, spend a moment reveling in how light, happy and free you feel. Imagine your whole body glowing with this good, clean feeling, and try to amplify it as much as you can.

4. Embrace Forgiveness to Lighten the Load.

Holding onto past hurts is like storing boxes full of old, useless stuff — and it can *really* weigh you down.

To practice forgiveness, try writing down what you need to forgive and visualize setting those papers on fire. Picture the smoke drifting away, taking all the heaviness with it.

(And don’t be afraid to seek professional help if you need extra support in this area.)

5. Set Healthy Boundaries.

Learn to say a gracious but firm ‘no thank you’ to things that drain your energy. Whether it’s declining an invitation, turning down a request, or stepping away from a negative conversation, protect your peace. You deserve it.

6. Practice Regular Energy ‘Hygiene’.

Make energy cleansing a part of your daily ritual, much like brushing your teeth.

Techniques like meditation, breathwork, or even simply going for a walk can act like an energy ‘shower’, washing away the baggage that can build up inside. 

Even just a few minutes each day will make a big difference.

Doing this helps your brain and body to understand what it’s like to have a clear, happy energy field.

 

Hot tip: My favorite way to cleanse my energy is by taking a dip in the ocean. There’s something magical about being in the water and surrounded by nature that just washes away worries and stress. Of course, you don’t need the sea to experience this feeling — spending time in a park, watching the clouds, or lying on the grass can do wonders too.

7. Cultivate Gratitude to Attract Positive Energy.

Once you’ve decluttered the junk, it’s time to call in the positive energy.

The simplest but most effective way to do that? Gratitude.

A regular gratitude practice will turn you into a magnet for good vibes. By focusing on what you’re thankful for, you naturally attract more positivity. 

Try keeping a gratitude journal and spending a few minutes each day writing down what you appreciate. The next best option is you could type your gratitude list into the Notes App on your phone, or even record a daily voice message to yourself. (It’s really fun to listen back to what you were grateful for in months and years past!) 

The Bottom Line

Just like a clean and organized room inspires peace and clarity, a decluttered energy field can transform your life. It’s about letting go of the old, making space for the new, and cultivating practices that keep your energy light and clear. 

Start today — even if it’s just with one or two of the above suggestions — and watch your outer life begin to mirror the clarity and lightness you’ve created within.
