[00:00:00] Welcome to the Melissa Ambrosini Show. I’m your host, Melissa, best selling author of Mastering Your Mean Girl, Open Wide, Comparisonitis, and Time Magic. Each week I’ll be getting up close and personal with thought leaders from around the globe, as well as your weekly dose of motivation, so that you can create epic change in your own world.
Hey beautiful, welcome back to the show. I’m so excited about this episode because I’m going to be chatting about work life harmony and how to create work life harmony, not balance as an entrepreneur. Because I don’t believe in balance. And you’ve probably heard the term work life balance tossed around like confetti at a [00:01:00] parade many times.
Raise your hand if you have heard it. I definitely have. And it sounds like a nice theory, right? But trying to keep everything perfectly balanced is like trying to juggle glass balls while riding a unicycle. It’s difficult. It’s exhausting. And let’s be honest, pretty soon something or someone is going to crash.
So instead of striving for balance What I aim for is work life harmony. Now, I want you to think of it like a symphony where every instrument, or in this case, every aspect of your life and work, plays its own part in creating a beautiful, cohesive whole. And yes, sometimes the percussions will be louder than the strings, and sometimes the harp will take center stage, but either way, everyone’s playing together nicely.
So here’s how to start creating your own work life harmony as an entrepreneur. Number one, define what harmony means for you, because everyone is different. [00:02:00] So the first step is to ditch the one size fits all approach. Your version of harmony might look completely different to someone else’s, and that is perfectly okay, my friend.
So take some time to reflect on what truly matters to you when it comes to both work and your life right now for this season. And notice that I said right now, like your priorities will shift over time and that is okay. What’s most important is that you are honest with yourself about what you need and what season of life you are in.
Like I am in a newborn season of my life. I have a newborn, I have a toddler, I have a business. All of the things. So, I want you to ask yourself, like, is spending more time with your family important to you right now? Is scaling your business something that you want to focus on? Do you want to focus on your health?
Or maybe, it’s finally taking that trip that you have been dreaming of. So get super clear on this. Once you know your priorities, [00:03:00] you can then start to arrange your life and your business in a way that supports that. So that is the first step. Define what harmony means for you. Number two, embrace the ebbs and flows.
So harmony is about flow, not rigidity. So some days your business will need more of your time and energy. Like if you’re in a launch. Or if you are preparing for a big speaking gig or whatever it is, your work will need more of you. And then other days it might be your personal life or your children that really require more of you, that extra attention.
So give yourself permission to flow with these demands instead of resisting them. Trust that when you are fully present in whatever needs your attention, you are exactly where you need to be, where you are supposed to be. Okay? So that’s number two. Embrace the ebbs and flows. Number three, set boundaries like a boss.
I am so good at [00:04:00] boundaries, but I haven’t always been. This is something that I have learned and mastered over time because I understand how important it is. So harmony doesn’t mean letting everything bleed into everything else without any structure. Quite the opposite actually. It means setting intentional boundaries that protect your time, your sacred energy and your mental space.
So that might mean setting specific work hours, creating no phone zones in your home and maybe at specific family times and even scheduling time for self care as a non negotiable. So boundaries are your best friend, okay? They are what allow you to stay aligned with your vision of what a truly harmonious life looks like for you.
So that is number three, set boundaries like a boss. Number four, intentionally design your own schedule. So if you are an entrepreneur, many of you listening to this are solopreneurs. You have the freedom to design your [00:05:00] schedule to suit your lifestyle and to make the most of it. Most of the women that are inside SheLaunch are solopreneurs, who are also mothers.
And I help them create the perfect harmony between motherhood, life, and their business. And they love it. So even small tweaks in your daily rhythms can really make you feel so much more fulfilled. So if you want to walk your kids to school each day, great, set a hard boundary that you don’t take meetings before 9.
30 or 10 o’clock, whatever time it is for you, so that you can make that work. Like if that’s important to you, do it. Like there are things that are very important to me when it comes to my children that I will. not let anyone else do. Like I put my children to bed, I wake them up from bed. That is really important to me.
I want to be the one that is there when they go to sleep. I want to be the one that is there when they wake up. Of course, Papa, he does some of that too. I don’t want anyone else to do that. That’s really important to me. So you set hard boundaries around that. Another [00:06:00] example is if you want to work out in the middle of the day, like if that’s when you feel the most energized, awesome, block off that time.
in the middle of the day so you can do a workout and nourish your body in that way. This is so important. So this is what it means to intentionally design your own schedule, okay? And also pay attention to when you personally feel and perform at your best. Like your body and your mind have their own rhythm.
So honor that and you’ll find harmony comes so much more easily for you. So that’s number four, intentionally design your own schedule. And then number five, give yourself some grace, my beautiful sister. Here’s the truth, sometimes harmony will look like. Beautiful chaos, and sometimes you will drop the ball, and sometimes the shiitake will completely hit the fan, okay?
Striving for perfection is not what we’re talking about here. All of this is okay. Life can be beautifully messy, unpredictable, and constantly changing. And if you have children, you know [00:07:00] exactly what I’m talking about, the beautiful chaos. The key is to give yourself grace and stay flexible. And I’ve been talking about this so much on my emails and on social media.
Like my meditation for me right now is when my toddler is having a tantrum and my newborn is wanting me and crying in those moments. I have a choice to either join them in the chaos or to be the meditation and walk through that situation calm and peaceful. So be flexible and give yourself some grace and when things get out of sync, don’t beat yourself up.
Take a breath, reassess. Adjust as needed and keep moving forward, even just one baby step. Okay. So that is the fifth one. Give yourself some grace. So let me just recap. Number one, define what harmony means to you. Embrace the ebbs and flow. Number three, set boundaries like a boss. Number four, intentionally design your own [00:08:00] schedule and life.
And number five, give yourself some grace. And just before we wrap up, quit beating yourself up for not achieving an idealized version of balance. Let’s delete that word from our vocabulary right now. Instead, create a life that feels harmonious, where your work, mothering, and personal life aren’t at odds with each other, but instead complement one another in a beautiful flowing dance.
That is what I am all about, and that’s exactly what I teach my women inside SheLaunch. It’s about creating a beautiful flow between the work you love and your personal life and mothering. So it’s about alignment, it’s about making choices that feel right for you even if they don’t look like someone else’s, okay?
This isn’t about comparing ourselves to anyone else. It’s about being brave enough to create what you want each day. Remember you are the conductor of your own life. So go ahead and write your own sheet music, okay? This is how we create a beautiful work [00:09:00] life harmony.
