[00:00:00] In episode 636, I’m going to be sharing with you one technique that I swear by to reach your goals. Let’s dive in. Welcome to the Melissa Ambrosini Show. I’m your host, Melissa, best selling author of Mastering Your Mean Girl, Open Wide, Comparisonitis, And I’m here to remind you that love is sexy, healthy is liberating, and wealthy isn’t a dirty word.

Each week, I’ll be getting up close and personal with thought leaders from around the globe, as well as your weekly dose of motivation so that you can create epic change in your own life and become the best version of yourself possible. Are you ready, beautiful?

Hey beautiful. Welcome back to the show. Bye. Bye. I’m so excited to share with you today the number one technique that I swear by to reach [00:01:00] your goals. Now lots of people think that to achieve big goals, you need superhuman levels of motivation, but here’s a truth bomb for you. Successful people don’t actually rely on motivation.

They have tapped into something that’s way more reliable and that won’t desert them at a moment’s notice. Their superpower is consistency, right? That down, my friend. So let’s talk about how to cultivate this wildly underrated skill. Okay. Now there’s a big myth that many of us have unknowingly bought into, and that is that we need to be in the mood in order to take action on our goals.

Think about it for a second. How many times have you told yourself? Um, I’m just not feeling it today. I’ll start tomorrow or I’ll start next week or I’ll start on Monday. Now this is a common trap, one that has probably stalled more dreams than we can count. But high achievers don’t do this. They don’t wait [00:02:00] to feel motivated or for the perfect moment to arrive.

They just show up to the gym, to their desk, to the piano, to whatever they need to be doing regardless of how they feel. Of course, though, there are nuances here. Like if you were dealing with burnout or struggling with your health, like it is so crucial to address those issues at the root level, what I’m talking about is if it is simply a matter of not feeling like it, then it’s time to change your mindset.

And this is what I teach inside SheLaunch. And here’s the thing. If you can stop making your mood a prerequisite for taking action and start practicing consistency instead, you will unlock a whole new world of results, my friend. And this is what I teach my girls. Like it’s not about waiting for the perfect moment.

It’s about taking consistent action. So what do you do when you’re not making progress? Now, one of the hardest times to stay consistent is when it feels like you’re putting in the work day after [00:03:00] day, but nothing seems to be happening. Now, we’ve all been there. It is so frustrating, it sucks, and can make you question if you are really on the right path.

But here’s the thing. Just because the results aren’t showing up yet, does not mean your efforts are not working. Nine times out of ten, it’s not your strategy that’s broken, it’s your patience. Most of us give up way too soon. Sometimes you just need to buckle up. And ride out the rough patches. Okay. It’s also helpful to make peace with plateaus.

Plateaus are real and a natural part of the journey. Whether your goal is around fitness, health, business, whatever, progress isn’t a straight line. It’s more like a jagged staircase, and those dreaded plateaus are the flat spots where we’re gearing up for the next big leap. So when you hit a plateau, please don’t let it derail you, [00:04:00] and don’t let it take you by surprise.

Spot it for what it is, a pit stop on your journey. And keep moving forward. Keep moving forward. No matter what, keep moving forward. If you just kept moving forward, you will get to your goals. So many people give up way too early, but just keep on trucking. So the mindset shift I want to offer you and what I talk about inside Qi Launch is embrace the progress.

Embracing the progress is all about focusing on the step right in front of you, not just the finish line. It means focusing on the quality of today’s workout, even if your personal best isn’t budging or focusing on today’s marketing effort, even if your sales numbers haven’t changed yet. And you know what?

I want to be real with you here. Like, embracing the process, it isn’t always glamorous. Sometimes it is boring, but here’s the kicker. 90 percent of the time, the boring stuff is where the true magic is [00:05:00] created. So a little hot take for you. Consistency does not mean daily action. It can mean that, but that’s not the only thing that it means.

If you’ve been around here for a while, you’ll know that I have always been a very disciplined person, and I really think that maybe from my dancing days. And in the past, I’ve definitely talked about showing up every single day, but ever since I had my daughter, I’ve realized that consistency can look like different things for different people.

Now your version of consistency might mean taking action on the three to four days each week that you work when your children are at school or childcare or whatever it is. Or it might mean committing to four hours of writing per week. Fit in whatever you can that works for the season of life that you are in.

And please don’t be hard on yourself, because you’re amazing, and I see you, and I love you. Don’t be hard on yourself. And whatever you do, don’t let someone else’s version of consistency make you feel bad about your own. [00:06:00] Consistency is about what works for you. It’s about finding what fits your life, your rhythm, your season of life, your style, and owning it.

Someone who has three young kids. That is going to look very different to someone who doesn’t have kids. Okay. So I want to share with you five smart, creative tips to build your habit of consistency. If you want, write these down. Number one, start small. I have so been guilty of diving into goals. Like I’m about to conquer the world only to hit a fast wall.

Trust me, small, steady steps are your best friend here. Okay. Number two, anchor your actions to a ritual, whether it’s a cup of tea before writing or a quick dance party before working out. These little cues can jolt your brain into massive positive action mode. Okay. Number three, set a timer for short, focused bursts of work.

Now, I love the Pomodoro technique, which involves working for 25 minutes. And then taking a five [00:07:00] minute break, then repeating it. And this is a great way to get yourself moving and making progress without feeling overwhelmed. I personally don’t do this right now since having my daughter, because I only work three to four hours a day and I just get in there and laser focus and don’t move and go for it, but you’ve got to do what feels right for you.

So try it out. And number four, keep a journal or a habit tracker to record your actions. Seeing your consistency laid out in front of you is a powerful reminder of how far you have come, even if the big results are not yet flowing. And finally, number five, celebrate your consistency. Whether it’s treating yourself to something that you love after a week of showing up or planning something bigger when you hit that milestone, acknowledge your efforts and this will help reinforce the habit.

So they are the five smart creative tips to build your habit of consistency. Now just remember that your goals, they don’t [00:08:00] need you to be perfect, endlessly motivated. or to have every star lined up. What they need is a bit of good old fashioned consistency. So here’s the deal, keep showing up, keep moving forward, keep trying, keep going, keep putting one foot in front of the other and keep believing in your beautiful self because that life that you have dreamed of, it’s not a distant hope.

It’s closer than you think and every small step forward is bringing you right to it. So keep going. You’ve got this beautiful and I truly believe in you. And I hope you got a lot out of this episode. And if you did, please subscribe and follow the show and leave me a review on Apple podcasts and send me a screenshot of the review to hello at Melissa Ambrosini and I’ll send you my wildly wealthy meditation as a little thank you for taking the time to leave that review.
