Why is wheat — a food that we’ve been eating for thousands of years — suddenly being linked to so many health concerns? Today’s podcast guest, Cyndi O’Meara, set out to find the answer to this question, and what she uncovered was deeply disturbing…
Cyndi O’Meara is a nutritionist, best selling author, international speaker and founder of the food company, Changing Habits. When Cyndi graduated with a BSc majoring in Nutrition from Deakin University in 1984, her special interest was ancestral foods. But at the end of her degree, she was so disillusioned by the standard nutritional guidelines, that she paved her own path — staying clear of the low fat diets of the day, and causing plenty of controversy in the process. Her groundbreaking book Changing Habits Changing Lives became an instant bestseller and from there, she has grown a successful organic food company, started a certified online education program and filmed a groundbreaking documentary, What’s With Wheat?
I’ve known Cyndi for many years, and have been *itching* to have her on the podcast. This is a woman with a powerful message, an unfailing passion for creating wellness, and a wealth of expertise to share. She’s someone who’s not afraid to go against the grain (pun intended!) and speak hard truths… and I know you’re going to be as blown away as I was by the knowledge-bombs she drops in this conversation.
So if you want to find out the truth about what wheat is doing to our health, uncover the harmful farming practices keeping us sick, and discover the best way to change your diet and heal your body… this episode is for you.
In this episode we chat about:
- Her epic morning routine (11:10)
- The inspiring story of how she got to where she is today (13:39)
- The inspiration behind her epic documentary, What’s With Wheat? (17:58)
- The massively harmful herbicide you want to avoid at all costs (25:26)
- The common diseases that people don’t realise are caused by wheat consumption (29:18)
- How to swap out wheat in your diet (and why it’s imperative to make this change ASAP) (35:27)
- The truth about properly prepared wheat for better digestion (39:20)
- How to make your own sourdough (43:17)
- How to detox harmful chemicals from your body (and why this is so essential for full wellness) (44:18)
- Plus so much more!

Inspiring, informative and educational. A great interview Melissa. Can’t wait to hear more of Cyndi and read her book plus those she has recommended. Simple messages of gratitude, organic and getting the family back into the kitchen. We can all do that.
Yes, we can honey. xx
One of your best episodes yet Melissa! Cyndi is SO wise and I was sooooo proud of her calling the council and trying to make a change in the world. As an Aussie local so nice to hear of local examples and have her store as a local resource to order from! Defo getting the Emmer Wheat and colloidal minerals. So sold on them!
Isn’t she awesome? So glad she is being the trailblazer she is. xx
I am one of those people who say I love bread and pasta way too much. My nonna makes the best pasta!!!
But listening to this podcast has made me make the commitment to myself to take on the 3 week removal of wheat.
Wish me luck I know my health is worth it.
Much love
Michelle xx
Nice work honey. Let me know how you feel after the 3 weeks. xx
Each and every time I listen to your insightful and inspiring podcast sweet friend, I feel such exhilaration and excitement. I am so moved by all of them, even the ones I don’t think will “wow” me, actually “wow” me. You are truly a fabulous interviewer. You capture the essence of each person you have on the show, so eloquently and graciously. I am kickstarted each time I listen, to further my own knowledge and research in the fields of healthy living and eating and to be the best example I can to spread the word about it. I have been introduced via your podcasts to the most amazing and spectacularly awe-inspiring people. My world is brighter and more beautiful and so much more plentiful with you in it. Keep on going with all that you are doing dear friend. I am in your lovely tribe for life.
And by the way, this podcast with Cyndi was phenomenal!!!! It is one that I will be listening to over and over again. A deffffffinate favorite!
Much love gorgeous, Stacey Rae 🙂 xx

Absolutely love this episode — Cyndi is such an inspiring woman! I’be been gluten-free for more than six years now and it’s great to get more knowledge and “power” on this topic.
My key takeaways:
Glyphosate is far worse and far more omnipresent than I thought.
Grow your own food or go organic — completely.
It’s true what I heard a couple of years ago: The wheat today is so different from what it used to be, no wonder there are more intolerances.
Let’s go for the good food!
xx, Kat
Power to real / good food, I say. xx
Great interview and really made me think about what I am eating daily!! Cyndi is very easy to listen to.
So glad you loved it Robyn. What were your biggest takeaways?
All I can say is WOW! What an amazing episode.
I started listening to you a few months ago, read Mastering your mean girl and am currently reading open wide. I have to say I am addicted. Your energy is beautiful and you are inspiring in so many ways!
Today’s podcast with Cyndi O’Meara was my favourite so far. I was sitting there nodding my head as I drove along – ticking the boxes as she talked about symptoms and yet we eat a relatively healthy and whole food diet.
I have Cyndi’s book – but haven’t actually read it – have only flicked through it – so that is at the top of my pile and I am going to watch her documentary tonight with my husband – as he is the one that has most of these symptoms and is very open to everything so I think he will agree completely about removing wheat!
However I do feel a little overwhelmed by the episode. It seems no matter where we turn we are smacked in the face with chemicals. But every little bit helps with change so we must keep fighting.
I would love to study nutrition but just can’t bring myself to go back to university again especially with two young children. Maybe one day I will get there and be able to follow my passion.
Thank you for an inspiring and eye opening episode.
Hey Jen, firstly thank you so much for your kind words. I am so glad you loved this episode and got loads from it. All we can do is do our best in our own home.
