[00:00:00] Welcome to the Melissa Ambrosini Show. I’m your host, Melissa, best selling author of Mastering Your Mean Girl, Open Wide, Comparisonitis, and Time Magic. Each week I’ll be getting up close and personal with thought leaders from around the globe, as well as your weekly dose of motivation so that you can create epic change in your own life.

And become the best version of yourself possible. Are you ready? Beautiful.

Hey, beautiful. Welcome back to the show. I want to share with you some mindset techniques that I’m loving right now. I’ve been experimenting with some new techniques recently, including some practices and ideas that have been a real game changer for me. And as always, I’m not one to keep the good stuff to [00:01:00] myself.

So I thought I would share the best ones with you in a total mixed bag style. So let’s jump in. Now the first mindset technique that I’m loving right now is to go all in on what you like. Take some notes, you are going to want to remember these. Now, if you want to know a simple but wildly effective life hack to experience more joy and more happiness, this is it.

Invest time and energy in figuring out what you like. Then, do more of it. This might sound super obvious, but I see so many women who have spent decades people pleasing to the point where they have literally lost touch with what they actually like doing. Now, if that is you, lower the stakes for yourself.

Instead of trying to figure out what you like, pay attention to what you’re interested in and what you are curious about. Start there. And soon you will trust yourself enough to begin climbing the ladder of desire a rung or two higher and figuring out what truly lights you up. [00:02:00] Okay? So a little hot tip for you is follow the breadcrumbs of your curiosity.

If you are intrigued by a particular topic, dedicate your free time over the next week to explore it through books, documentaries, podcasts, or online courses. This is a great way to discover new passions, okay? So that’s the first one. Go all in on what you like. Number two, you don’t get to start off good.

Now I recently watched my daughter trying to master a new skill at her gymnastics class. Now she tried again and again, but she couldn’t get it, and she fell over a bunch of times. But you know what? She didn’t care. She just kept on trying. And as a mama, it was the most heartwarming thing to witness. And it got me thinking, as kids, we don’t care what we look like when we are learning something new.

We know that falling flat on our butt is simply part of the process. But as adults, we don’t want to feel or look awkward. We want to be good at things straight off the bat. We don’t want to seem [00:03:00] cringe, you know, which means of course that many people stop trying to do new things altogether. So here’s the thing though, trying something new is cringe.

Being a beginner can feel challenging, tricky, hard, awkward, and usually super uncomfortable. But we all need to be okay with this. We need to actively embrace this particular kind of cringe. So, the next time you’re feeling resistance to being a beginner, I want you to put your hand on your heart, tap into that part of yourself that wants to try this new thing, and shower her with love and encouragement, and speak to her like you would speak to a child who you adore.

Respect yourself so much for being willing to even try. Most people don’t even try. Now, you might feel silly when you’re starting out, but that’s how every master begins their journey, trying, often very awkwardly, and then slowly getting better. So in other words, [00:04:00] cringe is the cost of entry. So that is the second mindset hack.

You don’t get to start off good, right? Now, I have a confession. I’m dating someone new. It’s not what you think. Now, I talk a lot about the importance of continuously dating your partner, even after you’ve been together for decades. Now, Nick and I are still consciously doing this, but lately I have focused on dating someone else as well, myself.

Now, let me explain. I want to model to my children what it’s like to nurture yourself, to treat yourself as sweetly and kindly and tenderly as you treat the love of your life, because You are the love of your life. So what does dating yourself look like? It can be anything. It can be taking your favorite book to your favorite cafe and sitting by yourself or taking yourself for a sauna or a massage or a walk in the sunshine or journaling in your holy mama journal.

Bambi watches me journal in that journal every [00:05:00] morning. Or you can also stop and smell a bunch of flowers at the flower stand at the markets before buying yourself the biggest, brightest bunch that you can find. You gotta do whatever feels loving to you. Whatever that is, do that. Now for me, lately, in this season of my life, That is having an Epsom salt bath, usually with my children, every night.

It is writing in my holy mama journal, like I mentioned before. It is getting some sun on my body. It is doing a workout. It is diving in the ocean. It’s reading for pleasure, reading fiction. I have never read fiction before until this last year and I love it, absolutely love it. And it is strapping my babe on me and going for a walk outside when the weather is beautiful, even though he is getting so heavy and it’s hurting my back.

But getting outside and taking him for a walk so he can nap on me, that is me doing something that I love, filling myself up. So my question for you [00:06:00] is, do you resonate with the idea of dating yourself? I would love to know. So that is the third one. Date yourself. And I just want to share some must know mindset stats.

So a positive mindset can extend your lifespan by seven years. Seven years. That is crazy, right? It also makes you more likely to experience better overall health. Just by having a positive mindset, you’re adding seven years to your life. How amazing is that? The next stat I want to share with you is Visualizing yourself working out can lead to actual muscle growth.

There is solid proof that your thinking impacts your biology. And the third one is, practicing self compassion can measurably improve your performance. So if you need any more reason to shower yourself with kindness, this is it, my friend, okay? So these are some mindset hacks that you can implement into your life right away.[00:07:00]

The first one is go all in on what you like. Second one is you don’t get to start off good, my friends. We all start off as beginners. Remember how children learn. And number three, start dating yourself.
