I’m in my third trimester with Baby #2, and while I’m SO excited for all the newborn snuggles and baby bliss ahead, right now, I’m in full-blown “babyproofing my business” mode.
My goal? To set things up so I can fully enjoy the newborn bubble without worrying about my business losing momentum or money.
I’m putting into practice everything I learned from my first maternity leave (with a few twists!) to make sure I can be as peaceful and present as possible during my postpartum period.
Here’s exactly what I’m doing…
In this episode we chat about:
- How I approached my first maternity leave (1:42)
- The key thing I’ll be doing differently this time around (3:14)
- How batching content now will save you so much time and stress later (4:41)
- My flexible approach to emails (that gives me wiggle room if inspiration strikes!) (6:10)
- Why having pre-arranged back-up is crucial (7:35)

Hi, beautiful, and welcome back to the show. I’m so excited about this episode because I’m going to be [00:01:00] sharing with you exactly how I am baby proofing my business right now. Now at the time of recording this, I am in trimester three with baby number two, and I am so excited. For this next chapter in my life and for all those newborn delicious snuggles and that baby bliss.
But before I get there right now, I am baby proofing my business. I’m in full baby proofing mode. So this is my second go around with maternity leave. And I am taking all the insights that I learned from the first time to heart. I’m absolutely taking them to heart. And I’m really learning from what happened last time.
The good and the interesting, I should say. Now, last time I basically took a year off. It was delicious. It was so luxurious. I barely opened my laptop for the first six months, except when my book Comparisonitis launched the same week Bambi was born. That was not intentional, but it just worked out [00:02:00] that way.
And there’s nothing you can do about it. You just gotta be flexible. So I just had to work with it. And so what I had done is I had backlogged about four months worth of podcasts, which were all ready to go. And then for the rest of the year, I kind of jumped in and did a few. And then Nick stepped in as a host for me.
And he did a few, if you’ve been around for a while, you’ll remember him jumping in. And that was so fun. And you guys loved his interviews. That was so fun. And so that’s basically it. I didn’t launch anything new. I didn’t run any events. I basically did my podcast, kept up with my social media and my emails out to my beautiful email list and promoted Comparisonitis when that came out, but that was really it, but honestly, like truly, I was not working a lot at all.
And by the end of the year, I’d eased back into it, but overall, I loved having that time to just be a mama and soak in every moment. It was so beautiful. And I know how privileged I am to [00:03:00] have had that time. Like so many women don’t get that. And I understand, and I respect how privileged I am for that.
And it’s something that the world seriously needs to fix for mothers everywhere. But that is another whole episode for another day. So this time around though, I am feeling super different. I am so lit up by SheLaunch and my amazing dream clients that honestly, The thought of being away from them for a whole year is just something that I don’t want to do.
I love coaching. I love my clients. I love what I do. And I don’t want to be away for too long. I love it so much. And I know that I’m going to be ready to dive back in a lot sooner, but I’m setting things up now so that I can still be fully present in that beautiful newborn bubble. And I know even when I’m on maternity leave, I’m still going to be making the same amount of money every month because that is what I’ve created.
That is how I’ve set up my business. And that is what I [00:04:00] teach my SheLaunch clients how to do as well. Because I want women to go on maternity leave or to go on holidays or to be able to be fully present with their children on the weekend and make pancakes and still be making money and having the impact that they want.
So I know when I go on maternity leave, I’m still going to be making. The same monthly revenue each month, which is just so beautiful. And that’s what I teach my clients to do as well. And the goal is for me to enjoy this baby bliss without worrying about my business, losing momentum or money. I don’t want that for anyone.
So here is how I’m baby proofing my business for baby number two with a few juicy insights that I’ve learned from last time. Okay. Number one. I am batching my podcast right now. So, like I said before, I batched about three or four months. I can’t remember exactly. I’m pretty sure it was four months of podcast episodes before Bambi was born and it was a game changer.
I didn’t have to worry about creating content while [00:05:00] navigating new motherhood and you guys were still super nurtured and loved on. And it was one of the best things I did. So I’m doing that again right now. I’m in full on batch mode recording episodes so that I can just be and focus on my family without stressing about consistency because.
In business, showing up consistently is really important. And I want this podcast to continue to grow and evolve. But if I step back in that way, then it will lose that momentum. And it’s just not something that I want to do right now. So if you’ve got a content heavy business, I highly recommend batching your content in advance.
Whether it’s blogs, social media, or videos, podcasts, whatever it is, it’s one less thing for you to think about. And try having about three months up your sleeve. And I’ve got a little hot tip for you. Try batching in creative spurts. So I’ll record a few episodes when I’m feeling extra energized and then I’ll take breaks.
But don’t force it because your energy comes [00:06:00] through on each episode or the content that you’re producing. So if you’re having a day where you’re super creative, then batch a whole bunch of content then. Okay. Number two, batching weekly Emails. So right now, if you are subscribed to my list, which you absolutely should be, and you can subscribe at melissaambrosini.
com forward slash newsletter, and you will get weekly amazing emails from me about business mindset, all the good things that I share. And these emails go out to over 150, 000 people. And the response that I get is just so amazing. So I want to keep doing them, but let’s be honest, you know, the idea of writing emails after a night of wake ups and feeding my little angel may not be the best creative thing to do.
So I am batching all of my emails now. And they will be lined up and scheduled. So even during those newborn months, you will still get your amazing, powerful [00:07:00] emails from me. How cool is that? And here’s the best part. I’m keeping things flexible. If inspiration strikes, or if I get an urge to write, I can tweak the schedule and I can share something different to what was scheduled that week.
But the pressure is off, which as you can tell is how I like to roll. So if you have a business and you send out amazing weekly emails or bi weekly emails or monthly emails. Then definitely batch them, at least have like three months up your sleeve if you can, just so you can enjoy that baby bubble. Okay, number three, getting back up in place.
Okay, so I do live coaching calls with my SheLaunch clients every single week. And like I said, I love it. It is one of the mega highlights of my work week. And I just love it. It’s one of my favorite things to do. I love it so much. Love it. So even though I am wanting to take some time off, I’m still planning to lead those [00:08:00] weekly calls, except for those two weeks over Christmas and New Year, which the company takes off.
I want my clients to rest. I want them to rejuvenate and rebuild during that time and be with their family and fill their love tanks up. So I’ll have those two weeks off. And I’m due in December and obviously, look, the first couple of weeks, I’m not going to do the calls. But I may want to do it on the third week.
I don’t know. I don’t know. I may want to do it on the first week after giving birth. I don’t know. And I may not want to do it for a month or two months. I don’t know, but I’ve got one of my elite backup coaches on standby just in case. So this gives me so much peace of mind. If anything doesn’t go according to plan.
And let’s be real, like I’ve got a newborn. I don’t know what’s going to happen. Now, this gives me such peace of mind. If I want to jump on the coaching call and do it, I can, if I have had a big night, if I don’t feel up to it, I don’t have to, I’ve got [00:09:00] support. I’ve got a backup there and that feels really good for me.
So if you have a business. And there is coaching that is required from you. What are you going to do when you have a baby? What are you going to do if you want to have a baby? Are you going to have a backup coach? Are you going to pause it during that time? You know, what are you going to do? Think about these things now.
So a little hot tip for you, if you are coaching clients, consider bringing in a backup who can step in if needed. The last thing that you want is to feel torn between your clients and your precious new baby. So set yourself up for success, plan now and your future self will love you and thank you for it.
I have lots of clients who have done this whenever they’ve gone on maternity leave, they have a backup coach or they do masterclasses. But they set themselves up so that they have that security there. So they’re not having to worry or even think about it. It’s all set up. So set yourself up for success.
Okay. Number [00:10:00] four, keeping the money coming in, even when I’m not working. So this is a big one. It is not something that I’m doing right now. It’s something that, like I said before, I’ve set up over time. I created my business. I structured my dream business to keep the money flowing. Even when I am on maternity leave or baking pancakes on a Sunday with my kids or in the evenings with my husband, you know, I’m not having to work in those times, those precious times that are really important to me.
I still have money coming in. So even during my maternity leave, there’ll be no stress, just steady, reliable monthly income. Which is what, like I said before, I teach my clients how to create in their own life because that is what I want for everyone. I don’t want anyone to go on maternity leave or a vacation and have to stress and worry about money.
That is not what I want for anybody. And this has been an absolute game changer for our family, and it’s something that I’m just so incredibly passionate about. And that’s why we teach it inside SheLaunch, because I want to teach it. I want every [00:11:00] woman all over the world to be able to take time off with their baby without having to worry about how to pay the bills.
I want every woman to be able to go on holidays, like I said, without having to worry about money. I want every woman to be able to not work nights or weekends and still have cash coming in whilst they are playing with their children. Now that is our birthright. That is what you are worthy of. That is what you deserve.
And that’s exactly what I help women achieve inside SheLaunch. And just a little hot tip for you. If you are planning on taking time off, set up systems and processes to keep the money coming in, whether it is payment plans, monthly recurring revenue, passive income, or automated services. Give yourself the freedom of not having to worry about cash flow.
You have a newborn or you are on holidays or you are with your children being present with them. I do not want you to have to worry about cash flow as well. Okay. So number five, flexibility is key. [00:12:00] Just remember, babies are unpredictable. So even with all of this planning, this batching and this backup support, I know things won’t always go a hundred percent according to my plan.
And that’s okay. Okay. With Bambi, I learned to go with the flow and accept the unpredictability of life with a newborn. And I’ll be doing the same this time. I have built in flexibility for when things change, and they will change, right? That is inevitable. Change is inevitable. And I’m offering myself grace and love always.
This is really important to be kind to ourselves, to be loving, to be soft, to be compassionate always and especially when we are on maternity leave. Now every mama deserves bucket loads of that. Okay. So let’s just recap those five things that I’m doing to baby proof my business. I am batching my podcast now.
I am batching my emails. I am getting back up in place. I’m keeping [00:13:00] the money coming in and I’m remembering to be flexible. And I’m so excited to take this time to be fully present with my new baby. And I’m so excited to step back into my business when I’m ready. So this December I’ve got a new baby and we’re moving into our dream home as well.
It is big. It’s going to be a big month, so I’m so excited. And the beauty of baby proofing your business is that it lets you do both. You don’t have to choose between being the best mama that you want to be and being a great business owner. You don’t have to choose. Okay. So if you are planning your own maternity leave, or you just want to go on holidays, or you don’t want to work at nighttime, or you don’t want to work on the weekends, just know that it is possible to do it on your own terms.
You get to create what you want. You can have both. You can be the mama that you want to be, and you can be the business owner that you want to be. I know because I have done that myself. I’ve created that myself. And I help so many other [00:14:00] women do the same inside SheLaunch. And if you want to come and check out SheLaunch, just head to SheLaunch.
