Ever poured your time, energy and money into something for your business, only to realize that you need to change course?

Or clung to a way of doing things even though it’s not working, simply because you don’t want to have to start over?

I’ve been there more than once.

It’s not easy to admit when a plan isn’t working or that a long-held belief needs a shake-up. It takes guts to say, “This isn’t working; I need to change direction.”

But I do think that as entrepreneurs, this is something we should talk more about.

So today, I want to share three decisions I reversed in my business that initially felt like setbacks… but that turned out to be some of the best moves I’ve ever made.

In this episode we chat about:

  • The dream office that wasn’t meant to be (1:52)
  • Why I had to get comfortable with doing less (4:08)
  • The time-saving tool I was completely wrong about — and that I now swear by! (6:20)

Hey beautiful, and welcome back to the show. Today I’m going to share with you three changes that will lead to [00:01:00] massive business success for you. But first I have a couple of questions for you. Have you ever poured your time, energy, and money into something for your business only to realize that it wasn’t the right thing to do?

Or have you clung to a way of doing things because it’s how you’ve always done them, then suddenly realize that you need to do a complete turnaround? Now I have been there more than once. It’s not easy to admit when a plan isn’t working or that a long held belief needs a shake up. It takes guts to say this isn’t working.

I need to change course. But I do think that as entrepreneurs, this is something that we should talk about more. So today I want to share with you three decisions that I reversed in my business that initially felt like setbacks, but that turned out to be some of the best moves I’ve ever made. So let’s break them down.

Number one. The first one is the dream office that wasn’t meant to be. Okay. So let me explain years [00:02:00] ago when I was still living in Sydney, I fell in love with the idea of having a beautiful office, a place where my team and I could come together and creativity would flow as freely as the fresh green juice that we’d always have on hand.

Now we found this gorgeous workspace. And decked it out with stunning interiors. It was every entrepreneur’s dream on paper. But here’s the twist. The reality of daily commutes, even though it wasn’t far, but it still took time. And the idea of fixed office hours and the hefty overhead costs really started to sink in.

I had to be honest with myself. My dream office just doesn’t fit with the flexibility, the dynamic vibe that I wanted for my team and myself. So we ended up cutting our losses and letting go of the lease just after six months. Now, this decision freed us to return to a work from home model. That’s been the cornerstone of our agility and success [00:03:00] ever since.

So the lesson learned, no matter how much time, money, or effort that you’ve invested in something, if it doesn’t align with your vision or it doesn’t feel right, it’s okay to cut your losses and walk away. That idea of the dream office that I so desperately wanted. When I actually got it was not what I wanted.

I wanted to be able to work from home in my own hours to get up and go put a load of washing on in the middle of a work session or whatever it was. I wanted that freedom and that flexibility. And yes, the idea of having a beautiful workspace. was a beautiful idea in my mind, but in reality, it was not something that I wanted.

It was not aligned with my core value of freedom and flexibility and working in my active wear. Didn’t align with that. And I also felt like I had to be there all day because I felt like I had to be the example for all of my team members. And that just didn’t align [00:04:00] with me. I didn’t want to sit there all day.

I don’t want to work all day. And so we had to shift and we did. And I’m so glad that we did. So the next one was saying yes to doing less. Now in the early days of my business, I thought that the best way to succeed was to do everything I possibly could myself, but trying to go it alone didn’t lead to success.

It led to exhaustion and burnout. Also, I’d become the bottleneck in my business and it was slowing our growth. I knew I needed to change my approach. So I began scouting for supportive people who believed in my mission as strongly as I did, and I hired them to be my dream team. Now, it was so scary at first, like letting others take the reins on projects that I would normally be hovering over, like this was scary.

Anyone who is a business owner will know that, but this shift was such a game changer for me. And now I can’t imagine life without my team. Especially with a child, a [00:05:00] stepson and another baby on the way. Like seriously, I feel like I’m a superwoman, but like we all need support in business and in life. So the lesson here was having support freed up my time to focus on what really matters, the needle movers in the business.

The revenue driving activities. It allowed me to stay in my zone of genius and let my creativity and innovation take flight. And this is a thing in your business and in your home life, you want people to come and do the things that you necessarily don’t love doing that aren’t your zone of genius so that you can stay in your zone of genius.

So for me, my zone of genius is obviously recording the podcast, writing books, coaching inside. She launched speaking on stages like. Those are the things that are my zone of genius and the other things my team can do. So this wasn’t just good for business, this decision, it was essential for our success.

So just remember that you don’t have to do everything in your business and in your [00:06:00] life alone. Get support. Master your inner mean girl who’s telling you that, Oh, I can’t possibly receive support from this person or whatever it is, and then just receive it. Because you are worthy of it. It takes a village to run a business and it takes a village to raise children.

So get support, my friend. And the third change that would lead to massive business success for me was admitting that I was wrong about AI. Like I used to be really resistant to using AI in my business. Like when I first heard about it, I was like, what do you mean? Like, seriously, what do you mean? But without realizing it, I had brought into a lot of the common myths about AI.

Like I thought that it would make my content sound bland or boring or soulless. I thought that because my business was built on authenticity, that AI would never work for me. And I thought that because I’d used AI before a few times with not very good results that AI just basically sucked. Now, I am not scared to say that I was completely wrong.[00:07:00]

And it was Nick who convinced me that we needed to learn how to use AI properly and strategically. And that we should give it a go. And so we did. And I’m so incredibly glad because AI has transformed the way I work. So the lesson here is when we know how to use it properly, AI is an amazing tool that can be a game changer for you and your business.

And this can apply to anything when you know how to use any tech properly, it can be an amazing tool and a game changer for you and your business. And it’s not just about saving time, though, let’s be honest, that is awesome. We talk a lot about that in time magic, but AI brings a level of efficiency and creativity to my business that I never thought possible.

It’s like having an extra brain that is always on, always ready to help and always full of ideas. So these days I can’t imagine being without it. So whether it is AI or any sort of tech or anything else in your business, admitting that [00:08:00] you may need to shift about something is huge because Whenever I have embraced tech or AI, whatever it is, I’ve always seen such great results.

Okay. So just remember that changing your mind isn’t a sign of weakness. It is actually a superpower. It shows that you are listening, that you are adapting, that you are willing to correct course for the betterment of you and your business. And that is a superpower. Okay. So I want to ask you, is there a decision that you are contemplating that might need a fresh perspective?

Remember that it is never too late to change your mind and pave a new path to success, my friend. So I hope you got a lot out of this episode.
