.....

I’ve been experimenting with some new mindset techniques recently, including some practices and ideas that have been real game-changers for me.

As always, I’m not one to keep the good stuff to myself, so I thought I’d share the best ones with you, mixed-bag style.

Let’s jump in.

Go All In On What You Like

Want to know a simple but wildly effective life hack to experience more joy and happiness?

➡️ Invest time and energy in figuring out what you like. Then do more of it.

This might sound obvious, but I see so many women who’ve spent decades people-pleasing, to the point where they’ve literally lost touch with what they like doing.

If that’s you, lower the stakes for yourself. Instead of trying to figure out what you like, pay attention to what you’re interested in and what you’re curious about…

Start there, and soon you’ll trust yourself enough to begin climbing the ladder of desire a rung or two higher and figuring out what truly lights you up.

Hot tip: Follow the breadcrumbs of your curiosity. If you’re intrigued by a particular topic, dedicate your free time over the next week to exploring it through books, documentaries, podcasts or online courses. This is a great way to discover new passions.

You Don’t Get to Start Off Good

I recently watched my daughter trying to master a new skill at her gymnastics class.

She tried again and again but couldn’t get it, and fell on her tushy a bunch of times.

But you know what? She didn’t care — she kept on trying. As a mama, it was the most heartwarming thing to witness.

It also got me thinking…

As kids, we don’t care how we look when we’re learning something new. We know that falling flat on our butts is simply part of the process.

But as adults, we don’t want to feel awkward. We want to be good at things straight off the bat. We don’t want to seem ‘cringe’.

Which means, of course, that many people stop trying to do new things altogether.

Here’s the thing though: trying something new IS cringe!

Being a beginner can feel challenging, tricky, hard, awkward, and usually very uncomfortable.

But we all need to be okay with that. In fact, we need to actively embrace this particular kind of cringe.

The next time you’re feeling resistance to being a beginner, I want you to put your hand on your heart, tap into the part of yourself that wants to try this new thing, and shower her with love and encouragement. Speak to her like you’d speak to a child who you adore. Respect yourself *so* much for being willing to try.

You might feel silly when you’re starting out, but that’s how every master begins their journey: trying, often awkwardly, then slowly getting better.

In other words, cringe is the cost of entry.

Confession: I’m Dating Someone New.

I talk a lot about the importance of continuing to date your partner, even after you’ve been together for decades.

Nick and I are still consciously doing this, but lately, I’ve been focused on dating someone else as well… myself.

Let me explain.

I want to model for my little girl what it’s like to nurture yourself; to treat yourself as sweetly and kindly and tenderly as you’d treat the love of your life.

(Because Beautiful, you ARE the love of your life.)

So what does dating yourself look like, exactly?

It can be anything — taking your favorite book to your favorite cozy cafe and sitting by yourself. Or taking yourself for a sauna, or a massage, or a walk in the sun. Or slowly and unhurriedly sniffing every bunch of flowers at the flower stand before buying yourself the biggest, brightest bunch you can find.

Whatever feels loving to you, do that.

For me, lately, it’s been soothing Epsom salt baths after a chill yoga session, reading for pleasure (I’m attempting to branch out beyond my go-to choices of non-fiction business, health, conscious parenting and personal development books!), and walking through the national park with nothing but my thoughts to keep me company.

Do you resonate with the idea of dating yourself?
