Connecting with your inner goddess is a sure-fire way to instantly feel happier, healthier, and sexier. But when life gets full (I don’t use the word busy) and stress levels get high, embodying that gorgeous, divine energy can be challenging.

Instead, with tasks piling up all around us and to-do lists as long as the Thames, we can spend all our time living from our more masculine side – channelling loads of results-oriented ‘yang’ energy at the expense of its gentler feminine counterpart, ‘yin’.

Of course, there’s nothing wrong with ‘getting your yang on’ from time to time, in fact it’s essential and it’s a great way to compel breakthroughs and make massive progress and full steam ahead. And being in your yang definitely serves a purpose. But as women, we can run into problems when that’s the energy we’re embodying too much of most of the time. Neglecting our divine feminine side can result in stress, fatigue, resentment, and a persistent sense of dissatisfaction with your life. In severe cases, it can even lead to illness, depression and burnout.

Luckily, there are some super simple steps you can take to rectify this type of imbalance and recalibrate your energy.

Here are 5 ways to embrace your divine feminine and nurture your inner goddess…

1. Celebrate Your Senses

A sure sign that your inner goddess needs some attention is when you spend all day caught up in your head and zero time connected to your body. (If you spend all day sitting in front of a computer screen, I’m talking to you!) This kind of imbalance is exhausting, and is often a reason why people finish their workday desperate to numb themselves out with a trashy TV show and a glass (or three) of wine.

Nurture your inner goddess: Instead of numbing out, send a lightning bolt of divine energy through your body by stimulating all your senses at once. Perhaps you could light some gorgeous beeswax candles or defuse some essential oils and have a steamy coconut oil bath. Then, with your favourite music playing, you could anoint your body with organic oils, before slipping into your favourite silky nightgown. Afterwards, you could enjoy some divine raw cacao chocolate (total goddess food!) and savour each mouthful while gazing up at the stars… #Bliss

2. Observe Nature’s Cycles – Including Your Own

As creatures of the Universe, we are affected by the cycles all around us – including those of the seasons and the moon. As women, of course, we also have our own sacred cycle — repeating each month, and reminding us of our divine feminine essence. Too much time spent immersed in other people’s cycles (for example, the go-go-go of the business world, or the never-ending slog of student life) while denying the ebb and flow of our own natural cycles can lead to burnout and exhaustion.

Nurture your inner goddess: Make an effort each night to observe where the moon is in its cycle and reflect on where you are in your own cycle. Are you full of energy and wanting to kick some butt and smash some goals? Or is it a time for you to rest and retreat? Tune in, follow your heart and honour that instinct.

3. Engage In Sacred Sex

When your brain is going a mile a minute, and you’re constantly thinking about all the things you ‘need’ to get done, it can be tough to switch into the mindset needed to really connect with you partner. Sex can therefore become something that’s done mechanically, and without thinking – like you’re on autopilot, just ticking off another chore on your to-do list. (Not exactly sexy, right?!)

Nurture your inner goddess: If you’ve been feeling a lack of romance in your life, engaging in sacred sex can help you INSTANTLY get back in touch with your true feminine energy. Instead of falling into the same old habits and routines, tell your partner you want to try something new. This doesn’t have to mean doing something wild and crazy — although it absolutely can, if that’s what floats your boat! But it can also be as simple as just making the effort to switch off the TV and spend the night connecting with each other over your meal — defuse some oils, play some soft music, take a bath together, have a spirited conversation, and then luxuriate in each other’s physical presence. The sky’s the limit here – lose yourself in the ride. And if you currently don’t have a partner start to explore your own body. Give yourself coconut oil breast massage, touch, look and explore your beautiful temple and get to know what you desire.

4. Dress To Impress (Yourself, That Is!)

A sure-fire sign that you’ve dipped too far into your masculine side is an insistence on always wearing harsh, severe colours and restrictive clothing. Take a peek through your wardrobe – Is everything black? Do you always reach for the darkest, most serious clothes?

Nurture your inner goddess: Consciously mix things up by choosing soft, floaty, swirly fabrics that make you feel like a sexy goddess. Feel being the operative word here. Experiment with colour. Pick clothes not based on how trendy they are, but on how beautiful they make you feel while you’re wearing them.

5. Connect With The Mother Of All Goddesses…

No discussion of nurturing your inner goddess would be complete without mentioning the most powerful, ever-present, divine goddess of them all: Mother Nature. When life gets a little cray cray, it’s all too easy to hurry through your day without even noticing her. Heck, some people spend all day inside – going straight from their home, to their car, to their air-conditioned office, then back again – never even spending a minute in the purifying energy right outside their doorstep.

Nurture your inner goddess for a radiant life.

Nurture your inner goddess: Make nature time a non-negotiable part of your day. While big, immersive experiences (like diving in the ocean, walking barefoot on the grass or sand, walking through a forest, or climbing a mountain) are the best energy shifters of all, even tiny moments spent in nature can make a massive difference. So whether it’s playing with your dog at the park, sipping a cup of herbal tea in the sunshine, or watering the flowers in your garden, make the effort to make Mother Nature an essential part of your day… It will always pay off.

What is a coconut oil bath and how am I missing such joy!? I usually add salt and oils to my baths but I’d love something super hydrating and delicious!

    • Melissa says:

All you have to do is add coconut oil sista! Enjoy!

    • Rachel says:

Loved this post! Never hurts to get a reminder to prioritise self love. Also really like the idea of observing the moon’s cycle in comparison to your own – will definitely be implementing this.

  2. Penny says:

I absolutely love the topic of sacred sex, it’s so beautiful. Would love you to talk more about this, and connecting with your romantic partner in general on a weeknight, when Tv is the ‘easy option’ and you only have a small amount of time in between getting home from work and going to bed. Loved the post xx

  3. Jules says:

This article was written for me. This week I have been bed ridden for 3 days with a virus but to be honest I think all of it has come from stress and anxiety.
I picked up your book that I’ve read twice to start reading again because it’s your words that give me direction and power to beat my mean girl.
From today I choose to live a wholesome life one of clean eating, exercise, and positive thoughts.
My hardest thing to overcome is my thoughts the anxiety about things that haven’t even happened and may not happen but I get scared and don’t allow the universe to take control.
Your posts always give me hope Thankyou xx

  4. Rachelle says:

Love this Melissa! My poor inner goddess has been missing out! Time to make it up to her….stat! Thanks for the tips! Looking forward to connecting with myself today!

  5. Renee says:

    Hi Melissa,
Wow..this article really spoke to me, & I mean really!
I’m sitting at work, in black clothes, looking outside & reflecting on how tired I will be tonight & that I will (once the housework & kids fun stuff is done) just slump down on the couch with a wine, simply exhausted. Will run from office to car to kids to home without even walking on the grass at all.
You (& this article) so inspirational, I’m going to finish my lunch (at my desk) & head out now to get some air & maybe buy a nice new floral top..no black! And then at the end of today, I will think about the habits I am creating in my life and in my evenings, think it’s time for a change!
Sending you my love & thanks for the shakeup!
    Cheers

  6. Brooklyn says:

i absolutely love these suggestions! I agree with all of them and try my best to partake in nurturing my inner goddess on a weekly basis 🙂 I love getting ready in the morning completely nude with music on & dancing like nobody’s watching! It sets me up for a fun, love filled day! Thank you for all that you do <3 Sending you love all the way from London, England! xxx

    • Melissa says:

Love it Brooklyn, I am going to give that a try 😉

    • Veronica says:

This is a lovely idea! Trying this tommorow morning! Ive been doing aeriel yoga to connect with my inner goddess again, playing with my hair and makeup and using oils on my skin and hair.

  7. Lottie says:

Amazing! I wear too much black and wear my hair pulled back in a clip or high bun as this makes me feel professional. The past 2 days I have worn a colourful blouse with my hair freshly washed, out and with no product or hairdryer etc just left it out and natural. Feels great! I have made my makeup a bit lighter and tried to embrace the natural me. Quite freeing and feels more feminine! Thanks Melissa!

  8. These are all such awesome tips. Thank you, Melissa! I feel like my own, inner goddess has been neglected lately, so this article comes at the perfect timing. xo, Marie

I am loving this post! It’s so easy to get caught up in the day-to-day activities of life. What a great reminder to breath deep and bask in the light of the goddess you are.

  11. Ciaran says:

Thank you. Reminded me to spend more time in nature. Taking shoes off and feeling mother nature all around me. Feeling the grass, sand and even the dirt. I’d not ever thought to look at the cycle of the moon in regards to my own cycle. Thank you ❤
I too have felt my inner goddess has been put on a shelf. Time to embrace her again. This came at the perfect time
I obviously embrace my inner goddess well with bright clothing however …. high fives to me
    Cheers
P.s. love your getting ready ideas Brooklyn

  12. Linda says:

Beautiful thoughts and words as always, Mel. Love your work xx

  13. Jenny says:

What we feed ourselves and how much energy and love we put into our meals is a good reflection of how nurturing of our inter goddess we’re being. Whether you’re feeding twenty or just yourself (and even if in my case you’ve already cooked two separate meals for your kids to fit around their busy lifestyles) it’s critical to fuel yourself with healthy food that’s prepared with love.
