If you’ve been holding yourself back from showing up online — whether it’s going live on Instagram, posting regularly, or fully stepping into your business — it’s probably not because you don’t know what to say or how to do it…
…It’s likely because you’re worried about what people will think of you.
Will they judge you? Will they criticize you? Will they think you’re not good enough, smart enough, experienced enough?
If that’s you, you’re not alone.
As humans, we’re wired to fear judgment because, historically, being part of the group was necessary for survival.
So it’s understandable that the idea of standing out, being seen, or being vulnerable feels uncomfortable.
But here’s the truth: staying invisible is costing you.
Every time you choose to hide, you’re holding back your potential. You’re delaying your business growth, keeping your gifts from the world, and preventing your ideal clients from finding you.
It’s time to break through that fear. Here’s how:
1. Start Small, Start Safe
You don’t need to jump into doing a live webinar with 100 people, or post a controversial opinion right away.
Start with baby steps:
- Post a short video introducing yourself.
- Share a behind-the-scenes moment on your Instagram Stories.
- Write a post on a topic you love, accompanied by a picture of yourself.
Start with actions that feel manageable, and build from there. The more you do it, the easier it becomes.
Hot tip: If you need to block your father, your bestie, or your old boss in order to feel comfortable posting, that’s okay. Do what you need to do. If you ever get called out on it (which is highly unlikely), you can tell them the truth: “I needed some space to show up authentically and not worry about any extra pressure. It’s not personal, just part of my growth.” Most people will understand and those who don’t? Well, they probably weren’t your ideal audience anyway.
2. Shift the Focus Off of You
When we’re scared of being visible, we’re usually focusing too much on ourselves — our fears, our insecurities, our doubts. Instead, try shifting your focus to your ideal audience you’re here to serve.
Think about your ideal client. What are they struggling with? What are their biggest desires? How can you help them? When you focus on serving, not on worrying what others think, it’s easier to show up with confidence.
Ask Yourself:
- Who needs to hear this message today?
- How will my content impact someone who’s struggling with XYZ?
- Am I comfortable withholding my help from someone who truly needs it, just because I feel a bit awkward?
3. Turn Fear Into Fuel
Fear often gets a bad rap, but what if you could flip the script?
Instead of letting fear paralyze you, recognize it as a signal that you’re stepping into something bigger. That nervous feeling in your stomach doesn’t mean you should stop — it means you’re about to break through a barrier. It’s a compass pointing you toward growth.
So the next time the fear of visibility creeps in, ask yourself: “What opportunity for growth is hiding behind this fear?”
Then, use your answer as fuel to propel you forward.
4. Get Comfortable with Imperfection
The fear of visibility is often tied to the fear of not being ‘perfect.’
But, as we all know, perfection doesn’t exist.
And guess what? Even if it did, people don’t connect with ‘perfect’ — they connect with real.
(Case in point: some of my most popular and viral content has been the most imperfect — because it’s real, raw, and relatable.)
So, let go of the pressure to be flawless. If you stumble over your words, or your hair isn’t perfectly blow-dried, it’s okay. It’s your authenticity that will resonate with your audience.
And if your underlying message is strong enough, none of that other stuff will matter.
5. Seek Out Support
Having people in your corner who cheer you on can make all the difference.
Whether it’s a business mentor, a group of entrepreneurial friends, or a coach, surrounding yourself with people who believe in you can help ease the fear of showing up.
(If visibility is holding you back, I’d love to help. In SheLaunch, we dig deep into these challenges and work through and overcome them together, so you can show up fully and grow your business faster.)
The truth is, there’s a little part of us that sometimes feels a little scared of being seen at times, but the people who thrive are the ones who take action anyway and get the support they need to keep going.
The Bottom Line
As much as you might resist it, visibility is a non-negotiable part of growing your dream business.
Yes, it can feel scary. Yes, it can push you way outside your comfort zone. But the rewards of showing up far outweigh the risks.
You’ve got something special to offer the people out there who are actively looking for you so please don’t hide it.
It’s time to let the world see the magic you’ve been holding back.
You’ve got this, Beautiful!
