Whew! What a week

The day after we got back from a long-awaited family holiday in Byron, I fell down some steps and broke my ankle, ruptured some ligaments, and busted up my knee in the process.

… And BOY did it hurt.

Things I Learned From Falling Image

It’s been 11 days since then, and I’m pleased to say that I’m slowly but surely on the mend.

As you can imagine, this little detour has given me a lot to think about.

Here’s what I’ve been reflecting on during my time:

Rest is more non-negotiable than ever.

Rest has always been important to me, and I do my best to prioritize it — though living with a toddler can make that challenging sometimes!

But this has required a whole new level of commitment to rest.

I’ve been treating rest as something intentional and devotional, knowing that it’s literally the best thing for me right now.

Even with this knowledge, guilt had its way of popping up. Some days, it will get to 3pm and I’ll hear that sneaky voice pipe up in my head: “But you didn’t finish XYZ today! What a waste!”

I’m getting so much better at catching myself and reframing it.

Because I fully know and believe: rest isn’t a luxury; it’s essential for healing — and for life in general.

But yeah, it doesn’t always come easy to me, and I know I’m not the only one. ❤️‍

Healing is hard work.

Ohmygosh, I forgot just how exhausting physical healing can be!

The first week after the injury, I was TIRED — which wasn’t helped by the fact that I was waking throughout the night because of the pain.

It’s so easy to forget that healing isn’t passive; it demands energy, focus and patience. Our bodies need time to mend, and that process deserves our full attention and care.

So for me, as well as leaning into rest, I’m leaning into self-compassion too.

Sure, it might not look like I’m “doing much” while I’m lying on the bed with my leg propped up with pillows, but my cells are actually doing the most important work of all.

Zero tolerance for toxic positivity.

I’ll admit it: early on in my wellness journey, I bought into the idea that we should think positive all the time.

So if a challenge arose, I’d try to stamp out any negative thoughts and force myself to look for silver linings.

As you can probably guess, it didn’t work!

These days, I know better.

I know that one of the most powerful aspects of healing is allowing yourself to feel *everything* that comes up without judgment — whether it’s floods of tears, bubbles of joy, or anything in between.

So let me tell you, there have been oceans of tears this past week — O-C-E-A-N-S!

Truthfully, it’s been really tough.

But because life is full of polarity, there have also been moments of wonder, joy, extreme gratitude, heart-bursting love and wild hilarity. (Nothing lifts your spirits like the lovable antics of a cutie-patootie toddler!)

So yeah — I now have a zero tolerance policy for toxic positivity.

Emotional self-honesty is where it’s at.

Prioritization is everything.

When you’re literally knocked off your feet, it’s a wake-up call to rethink where I’m spending my time and energy — What really matters? Where do I truly want to invest my attention going forward?

On the work front, all those tasks that had seemed so “urgent” and “important” two weeks ago suddenly got put into perspective — and some, on the backburner.

I’m so grateful for the relationships I’ve built with my team over the years. I’ve had to trust them to handle things I would usually manage myself, while I focus on the handful of tasks that only I can do.

I’ve had to place a lot of trust in the systems we’ve poured so much time and energy into building and strengthening in our business. It’s been incredibly reassuring to see how smoothly everything continues to run, even when things get shaken up or delayed.

Just the other day, I was telling my SheLaunch babes how grateful I am to have intentionally set up my business to keep the income flowing, even when I’m not physically working. This is exactly what I want for every one of my clients, because it can make a WORLD of difference to you and your family — especially during challenging times.

Finally: your people are *everything*.

The love and support I’ve received during this time has been overwhelming.

My mama dropped everything and drove 2 hours to come stay with us. She has been cooking, cleaning, sewing, taking care of Bambi, showering and dressing me. Friends have dropped over brownies and flowers. My phone’s been lit up with messages and well-wishes. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

It can be easy to forget how much we need each other when life is on cruise control, but moments like these remind us that we don’t have to do it all alone.

So, that’s where I’m at: navigating this little road bump with a few bruises and broken bones, but also with a deeper sense of clarity and purpose.

My advice to you?

Resilience isn’t about avoiding the fall — it’s about how you get back up.

So embrace the moments of rest, even when they feel uncomfortable. Allow yourself to feel the full range of emotions, without judgment. Prioritize what truly matters, and lean on your community when you need to.

We’re all in this together, and sometimes the toughest times lead to the most meaningful growth.
