I don’t have any regrets in life — I believe that everything happens for a reason, even if it takes you a while to connect the dots. I choose to see the beauty in everything and all situations. I realise it’s a choice — my choice — and I consciously choose to view the world through a positive lens. I haven’t always thought like that though, this is something I had to unlearn over my years of self discovery.

Recently in an interview I was asked a soul-stirring question: What would I say to my 15-year-old self if I could give her a piece of advice? This really got me thinking… Like I mentioned before, I wouldn’t change a thing that has happened in my past because it has all led me to where I am today. But in saying that, if I were to hold my precious 15-year-old self in my arms, I would definitely want to whisper some wisdom in her ear.

Here are 29 things I would tell her about health, wealth and love in the hope that I could spark some curiosity and plant a seed for her future…

For Health

  • True wellness starts in the mind. The thoughts you think are more powerful than anything (including the food you eat).
  • Daily movement is essential for happiness. The key is to enjoy it or don’t do it at all. Find something you love or find the love in what you are doing.
  • Meditation is the best kept secret on the planet for sanity, relationships, happiness, work, and creativity. Try it!
  • In my opinion every illness and disease starts as blocked energy in the body which needs to be released.
  • Your body is your temple! Treat it accordingly.
  • Your health must be a priority. Without it, you’ve got nothing.
  • The media is really good at selling you loads of toxic products and foods that you don’t really need. Don’t buy into it. Keep it simple, baby!

For Wealth

  • You can make money out of following your dreams.
  • Money is just energy. Don’t put too much power in it and don’t let it dictate your decisions; let your heart do that.
  • You don’t need to go to uni, do a masters, get five degrees or come from a rich family to start something that matters and to be ‘successful’ (whatever your definition of success is). All you have to do is find what lights you up and do that. EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.
  • The more you give, the more you get (but don’t give to get).
  • Having an abundant mindset is a daily commitment and is imperative in order to experience abundance in all areas of your life.
  • Having a good relationship with money is vital.
  • Investing is a good idea as long as you have fun with it.
  • Anyone can run their own business, all you gotta have is balls.
  • Reading, learning, growing and evolving is what we are here for. Make sure you continue to educate yourself. Just like trees if you are not growing you’re dying.
  • The work you do in the world is your self-love barometer.
  • Discover your passions and purpose in life… then live them!
  • When you show up with a desire to serve and add value, you become a magnet for money.

For Love

  • True love starts from within.
  • Self-love is a daily commitment and needs to be executed with conviction and fierce passion.
  • Self-care must be a priority and at the top of your to-do list.
  • Making love with your soul mate is a spiritual experience and will change the biochemistry of your entire body.
  • Your soul mate will come when you are bursting with love within yourself first.
  • Your relationships are a reflection of you and you are a reflection of the five most prominent people you spend your time with.
  • How worthy you feel is reflected in all areas of your life, included your love life.
  • Choosing love over fear is essential and it’s a moment-to-moment practice you need to embrace with your whole heart.
  • Finding the love in every situation is imperative in order to grow and evolve.
  • Choosing to do all things out of love instead of fear will make your life infinitely better.
Now, I would love to hear from you. What are three things you would tell your 15-year-old self about health, wealth and love? Share with us in as much details as possible the comments below.

Remember — loads of people come here every day to read your inspiring comments, so open your heart and share generously.

As always, thank you so much for being here and sharing your beautiful words of wisdom with our epic tribe. You melt my heart every day.

Ohhhh I love this post beauty. I’d share these nuggets of wisdom with my 15 year old self too. xo

  2. Amanda says:

Hi Melissa, the most important thing I would say to my 15 year old self is – “you are worthy of only the best love and joy in your life!”

As a teenager I was so unconfident about myself and never thought I would find love being myself. It stopped me from enjoying a lot of experiences.

Fast forward to now…I have finally found that happy place at 29 – I’m getting married next week yay! AND I am chasing the life of my dreams.

    The lesson: just be yourself.

Thank you for sharing your wonderful tips xxx

    • Melissa says:

You’re getting married how amazing, I am so excited for you. Please send me a pic. Getting married last year was truly the best day of my life. Enjoy every second of it my darling.

      xx

      • Amanda says:

Hi Melissa, I will definitely send you a pic!! I also wanted to say thank you for the beautiful lessons I have learned in GLOW – they have been so useful in the weeks leading up to our big day. Only 4 days to go!

        Amanda xxx

    • Kim says:

      Hi Amanda,

Congratulations! I’m sure you going to have a stunning and special wedding day. I completely agree with you and would definitely tell / teach my 15 year old self the simple and powerful lesson… just be yourself!

      xo, K

  3. Teresa Valentina Borik says:

Thank you so much for this beautiful soul talk, Melissa! This is one of my all-time favourite articles of you so far.
I would love to tell my 15 year old self that no matter how far I have struggled in my past I can live the life of my dreams, that I should listen to myself first and to stop the people pleasing, because that doesn’t please anybody including myself.
Sending you lots of love, Teresa Valentina xx

  4. Bernadette says:

What a terrific article! I feel great compassion towards my 15 year old self because she was pretty lost. I would love to let her know that wonderful things were waiting for her but she has to believe in her own power, take responsibility for finding what she needs and learn to be guided by her gut because it will never steer her wrong.

I see lost teenagers every day in my work and I am so grateful that I get to share some of my adult wisdom with them. Strong roots and make such a difference. Thanks for sharing Melissa.

  5. Caitlin says:

This is beautiful, I’m going to print it off for me and share it with my 15&14 yr old sisters. I would tell me 15 yr old:- to truly love yourself first, do all things from a place of love, only you know wants right for you and stand up for yourself, most importantly that I Love You. Thank you for sharing your beautiful words, Caitlin xx

  6. Thank you for these beautiful nuggets, I adore them. I feel the same, I believe everything happens for a reason and as much as I would have loved to have known all of this at 15 I feel like I have learnt and am still to learn most of these lessons when I have most needed too. Thankyou xoxo

  7. Fran says:

I love this idea. I would tell myself to stop sweating the small stuff. I love this quote form A Course In Miracles: “Those who are certain of the outcome can afford to wait, and wait without anxiety.” And meditate! xxx

  8. Kirst says:

This is beautiful, thank you x

  9. Lisa says:

What an inspiring triangle (health – wealth – love) of wisdom! You mentioned ‘growing and evolving is what we are here for’ and these 29 nuggets of wisdom show how very right you are – thank you x

  10. Jade says:

I absolutely love reading your emails and this one particularly. Recently ive been faced with a few health problems that have opened my eyes to a whole range of things, including following wonderful health and wellness bloggers like yourself, but i was just wondering about the comment on health being a priority (extremely important) and what it means by without it you have nothing. Thankyou. X

  11. Melanie says:

Gosh, that question really gets you thinking. I guess the main thing I would want to tell my 15 year old self would be – Not to measure my worth based on other peoples opinions. Put my head up, shoulders back, and stop doing things to make other people happy and just be myself. Find what lights me up and do that. Don’t listen to the older ‘wiser’ mob telling me that “artists never make any money”, or “You’re not really cut out for University” (even though I was accepted!) But easier said than done, hey. I grew up feeling like I was never good enough, on any level. I tried desperately hard to do what I thought my parents wanted in the hope that I would have a better relationship with my Mum. I watched my friends and their mums and just couldn’t understand why I didn’t have that. So for years I walked around believing that it must be something I had done wrong. So, I tried and I tried to be what I thought they wanted me to be. But it was never enough, and if anything, it only made things worse.
So find what it is you love, and do that. And while you’re doing it, love every minute. Ignore the critics and disbelievers and if it doesn’t go to plan, just re-write the plan.
Thanks Mel, really enjoyed your words today x

  12. I loved this post – so many incredible nuggets of wisdom. I would tell my 15 year old self that she was enough, no matter what.

  13. Emma says:

    Beautiful post Mel!

I was doing so well with meditation, kicking my inner girl, and bursting with love but seemed to have lost my way after moving interstate (and back home) recently.

Thank you for the gentle reminder, you’ve inspired me to keep going and try again.

    All my love xoxx

  14. Francesca says:

Dear Melissa, I love the points you highlighted!wish somebody had been telling me this at the time, even if, as you say, I also wouldn’t want to change anything of my past experiences .
The one thing that for me sums it all up, and what I still tell myself in times of crisis and doubt, is: “you are GOOD ENOUGH the way you are. You are already OK. ”

    Thanks and love!Francesca

  15. Tara Hunt says:

I have just shared this with my twin 15 year old girls who are both in the thick of puberty. Thanks for helping me to help them get things in perspective.
Its good for them to hear this stuff from someone else other than their mother harping on about meditation etc etc
    It is hard being 15.
    Thanks your a gem.

  16. Ulrika says:

I love this post. It made me smile from deap inside. This is something we should tell ourselves everyday 🙂 I am going to print this and put it up on my wall.

  17. Sammy says:

Thank you Melissa for these incredible Rays of sunshine. I’m 15 and in year 11 at school at the moment. After hitting a bit of a wall this week this I exactly what I needed! Your tips have helped me see that I will get out alive (fingers crossed). Sending endless love and happiness. X

  18. Sanda Lingle says:

“Your soul mate will come when you are bursting with love for yourself first.” But is it also a possibility that the love of your life came around when you were finding love for yourself and has helped that along?

    • Melissa says:

Absolutely honey there is no right or wrong. Every relationship is perfect and unique in it’s own.

Keep filling yourself up and make sure you are bursting with love within yourself first and foremost, then you can show up to the world as the fullest version of you.

      xx

  19. Great list!

“Making love with your soul mate can change the biochemistry of your entire body.” I want to read a full blog post on that one!

  20. […]  What nuggets of wisdom would you share with your 15 year old […]

  21. This is beautiful Mel! Every time I read each little nugget I was thinking “yes yes yes if only I would have known this at 15!” :p Thank you for sharing x

  22. Katya says:

Thank you for sharing this, Melissa!

The 3 things I would say to my 15 year-old self about health, wealth and love are as follows:
Health: cherish your body and feed it with healthy food, do not overeat, do physical exercises every day, it will not only make you fit, but will also bring you lots of fun! Try to start meditating at least for 5 minutes every day. Maybe if I got this message on time, I would not be overweight and unhappy with myself at the age of 15-21.
Wealth: don’t be scared to pursue what you really like to do. You CAN make money out of your passion, if you do your business sincerely, with an open heart and a desire to make a better world. Maybe if I got this message on time, I would not have to spend 8 years working in finance sphere, actually hating it but thinking that this was the only way for me to earn money.
Love: Do everything with love. Love yourself, the people who surround you, the Planet and the Universe. Do everything with love, no matter if you are meditating of brushing your teeth. Maybe if I got that message on time, I would be a much happier person in my younger years.
Anyway, I do not regret anything, because, just like you said Melissa, this all helped me to blossom into a person I am now. I am 30, I have healed my relationships with food and sport, I am married, I have a wonderful son and I am changing my career path at the moment. I am really blessed to have people like you in my life – even though we don’t know each other, you inspire me every day! Thank you so much, Melissa, for just being yourself and sharing so many precious things with us.

  23. Tamsin says:

Great post Mel, some great wisdom in here.
I would tell my 15 year old self.
Health – Look after your body, I promise you will feel comfortable in it.
Wealth – Money is just energy – don’t take it so seriously.
Love – Love yourself first, then love from others will flow.

  24. paola says:

Great post Melissa. My life would have been better if I believed more in myself when I was 15. I have printed these and will keep it for my girls who are now little but I want to make sure they get this wisdom as they grow

I just found your website last night and I am absolutely in love with your work already. Your light shines so bright through your words and your site, like it’s palpable and puts me in such a good mood. Thank you so much for sharing your work!

I loved this post! If I could tell my 15 year old self something, it would be one of Don Miguel Ruiz’s 4 agreements–“Don’t take anything personally.” I’d tell her that her opinion of herself matters more than what anyone else says or thinks and that she has the right/obligation to love herself. Finally, I’d tell her that perfection is a myth and to stop seeking it immediately.

    • Melissa says:

      Hey Alex,

Welcome to the tribe! We are so happy you are here.

I love your nuggets they are perfect.

Thanks for sharing and again thank you for being here.

      xx

      xx

  30. Bridget says:

LOVE LOVE LOVE your words Melissa!!!

    For me, I’d whisper

    1. know deeply that EVERYTHING (no matter the situation) will be okay. Yet it’s okay, to not be okay. Some days are harder than others. Emotions are here to be felt and expressed, freely, just like babies.

    2. You get out of ANY situation how much you put in.

    3. Beauty starts within, you are beautiful exactly as you are – the best makeup you could EVER wear, is a smile.

    4. Life is here for you, be in love with ever minute of it.

    5. Learn the art of presences and know deeply that the present moment is all you truly ever have. Embrace it wholeheartedly.

    6. It’s more pleasant being kind, than being right – for everyone involved

    7. To love, is to let go. (As fucking hard and gut wrenching that can be)

    8. Forgive all (all is one, you are one)

    9. Whatever’s good for you soul, do that.

Xx (forgive me, I couldn’t stop at 3)

  31. Sarah says:
